We’ve looked over the day’s fixture in Ireland to pick out our Ballinrobe best bets on Friday and tips on the racecard.

4:20 Ballinrobe – Ballinrobe Racecourse Centenary Year Mares Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m1½f

KARLA MARTINA showed improved form last time out when fitted with a tongue-tie for the first time where the Robin Des Champs mare finished third behind Run For Oscar at Fairyhouse in November.

Norman Lee’s charge had finished around six lengths adrift of the winner on that occasion but it was a career-best and hinted at better to come over hurdles. She was sent off at 125/1 but outran her odds where she made most to two out where she was joined and passed.

However she stuck well to her task and the form of that run has been boosted by the runner-up going on to win twice since while a couple of those horses who finished further back in the field have also gone on to register subsequent success.

This isn’t a particularly strong race and that piece of form from last time is arguably the strongest on offer; if she can replicate it here then she could go close and open her win account.

4:55 Ballinrobe – Killeen Sportsgrounds (C & G) Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m1½f

CALTHOR won a point to point for Ellmarie Holden prior to a switch to Gavin Cromwell’s stable and while the Califet gelding is yet to get off the mark under Rules he has run some good races over hurdles and fences.

Fourth to Belfast Banter on his hurdles debut at Galway back in October where he was beaten only five lengths he has since seen that form franked significantly and he wasn’t disgraced subsequently in a trio of starts in decent company over fences around the turn of the year.

Back over hurdles for his latest run he finished three lengths’ third to Jody Ted at Wexford last month and that form took a boost when the winner struck at Limerick yesterday.

Less testing ground here may prove more to his liking on this latest start and he could go well here having failed to get in at Limerick on Thursday.

5:30 Ballinrobe – McGrath Limestone Works Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m1½f

ZOFFANIEN has had a busy time of things since the turn of the year and this will be the seventh run of 2021 for the Zoffany gelding if taking his chance; if he does he could go close in a competitive contest.

Denis Hogan’s charge has been consistent this term, making the frame in three starts in January and February behind the likes of Coltor and Druid’s Altar before running out an easy winner of a Naas handicap in February where he beat Rock Chica.

Far from disgraced subsequently at the Cheltenham Festival where he finished eighth to Jeff Kidder in the County Hurdle he was just touched off when last seen at Cork, finishing runner-up by a short-head behind Botani at the beginning of this month.

Had he jumped the last cleanly he might well have won, but it was another good effort and back in trip he can resume winning ways assuming this doesn’t come too soon; while the booking of Rachael Blackmore catches the eye and he could defy a 4lbs rise in the weights here with another good effort.

6:00 Ballinrobe – BoyleSports Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m6f

CIAO BELLA has been progressing well over hurdles, making the frame twice in November including behind subsequent Grade three winner Sayce Gold at Thurles and the Martaline mare made a winning return to action following a couple of months off at Fairyhouse in March.

Elizabeth Doyle’s charge wasn’t disgraced in finishing seven lengths’ fourth behind Thunderosa at Cork latest where she was making her handicap debut and dropping back slightly in trip could be a good move.

She’s only 1lb higher in the ratings here but Richie Deegan’s 5lbs claim offsets that and more and she could prove well-handicapped as a result in a winnable race assuming she backs up those recent efforts.

6:30 Ballinrobe – Michael Cawe Suspended Ceilings Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-95) 2m1½f

SPRINGFIELD LODGE arrives here on a hat-trick having won her last two starts and the Scorpion mare can oblige backers with another success.

Edward O’Grady’s charge has been chasing of late, winning over fences at Downpatrick and Clonmel in recent weeks but returns to the smaller obstacles here where she she could prove well handicapped off this mark of 82 although her rider can claim a further 7lbs so she makes plenty of appeal at the weights as a result.

She hadn’t cut much ice over hurdles in a short spell over timber during the summer of 2019 but arriving here in good form she can exploit this mark to bring up her three-timer.
