IRISH RACING TIPS ON FRIDAY – BEST BETS AT DOWN ROYAL & KILBEGGAN
4:37 Kilbeggan – Sean Hughes Memorial Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m
CORNERKOVA has hit the crossbar in each of her last three outings, beating the reopposing Full Aux Rois on the latest occasion when finding only one too good again at Tramore three weeks ago.
It is a shade concerning that Henry De Bromhead’s Sholokhov mare has yet to get off the mark after a dozen tries, but she’s certainly shown enough to suggest she’s capable of winning although her tendency to find one too good is proving expensive to follow.
Nevertheless she wouldn’t need to improve much on her recent outings to figure prominently here and Hugh Morgan takes over in the saddle so a big run is expected.
5:22 Down Royal – Grant Thornton Nursery Handicap (2yo) 7f
MUMAYAZ is a lightly raced maiden who could get off the mark here having shaped better than the bare result when finishing fourth behind Howth at Killarney latest, beaten just under two lengths.
That was his first try at one mile and the longer trip possibly just stretched Kevin Prendergast’s charge who drops back a furlong here with the handicapper also easing him another 2lbs in the ratings.
Assuming the Tamayuz gelding can build on that latest better performance then he might be capable of making his presence felt here and he can open his win account at the sixth attempt.
5:52 Down Royal – Grant Thornton Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap (3yo+ 50-80) 2m2f
HANNON ran well back on the flat following a spell hurdling when finishing less than one length runner-up behind No Thanks at Bellewstown last month and a repeat of that effort could be enough to see Tom Gibney’s charge get back to winning ways.
The Canford Cliffs gelding was a hurdles winner on his first outing for this yard and he followed it up two runs later when successful on the Dundalk polytrack in December, beating Scholastic.
Having been campaigning back over hurdles following that win he returned to the flat for his last run where he turned in arguably a career best and he could thrive for this even stiffer test of stamina despite another 4lbs rise in the weights.
7:07 Kilbeggan – Kilsaran Handicap Chase (4yo+) 2m3½f
DEFINITE SOLDIER might be worth chancing here and the Definite Article gelding can bounce back from a lesser run last time out.
John Kinsella’s charge has been following up wins with lesser efforts next time out and having won here in August followed it up with a last of nine runners behind Batcio although he had excuses on that occasion and was running from out of the weights.
This looks easier and Jack Foley is back in the plate having steered the veteran to his last victory so a resurgence wouldn’t come as a surprise.
