Annsam (1.30 Kempton) – Treble

ANNSAM looks a solid enough bet to kick off our ITV tips. He drops in class after a good sixth in the Gold Cup Handicap at Newbury in November, where he would’ve finished closer had he not been hampered by the loose horse.

He’s been dropped 2lb in the rating for that too which will help his chances. His last run in this company saw him win comfortably at Newbury back in April last year, taking his record over fences outside of Graded company to F214331. His best efforts have all come when the ground has a bit of give in it so he’ll appreciate the soft going here.

Tile Tapper looks to be the biggest danger and he won’t mind the soft ground either, having won on heavy going towards the end of last season. However, he doesn’t have that touch of class to him that Anssam has, and we’re confident Evan William’s gelding can get us off to a winning start!

Complete Unknown (1.50 Warwick) – Double

Paul Nicholls has won the last two renewals of this race, with Next Destination in 2021 and Threeunderthrufive last year. This year he sends out COMPLETE UNKNOWN, and he should be good enough to be winning this.

He looked tailor made for fences on his debut over the obstacles last month, and when Harry Cobden pushed the button he quickly got the job done and never looked in doubt once hitting the front.

Looking at his rivals, Galia Des Liteaux disappointed when upped to this trip last time out, and the Skelton team aren’t in great form of late. The Goffer travels over from Ireland but was soundly beaten last time out by Ha D’or. Gentleman At Arms is the last in the line up and would have to improve considering from his chase debut to be considered a danger. Complete Unknown should hopefully improve from his debut win and rates a confident bet to give Paul Nicholls a hat-trick of consecutive wins in the race.

Pic D’Orhy (2.05 Kempton) – NAP

This is a poor field for this race and shouldn’t take much winning. PIC D’ORHY has by far the strongest credentials and it’d be a disappointment if he doesn’t win this.

Paul Nicholl’s 8YO has gone from strength to strength over fences, and has won five of his last eight races (won five of his last 6 completed races). His two runs this season have been impressive and he comes here with a strong chance of landing the hat-trick. He made all to win easily on reappearance, eased down in the final strides to win easier than the winning distance suggests. He then followed that up with a strong performance to win the G2 Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon last month, always doing enough out in front.

We’re expecting similar front-running tactics from him again here and in truth we don’t think he’ll see a rival go past him once. Saint Calvados would be a danger but David Maxwell should be out of his depth in this line-up, Angel’s Breath has been off the course for over three years so will surely need the run, and Coole Cody is much more effective on better ground. Paint The Dream will be the biggest danger, and Clondaw Castle should be much shorter in the betting in our eyes, but neither should come close to Pic D’Orhy, who rates as our best bet of the day.

Snake Roll (2.25 Warwick) – E/W Lucky 15

Just the seven runners in this but Lucinda Russell’s SNAKE ROLL looks a decent E/W pick. He’s won two of his three runs over hurdles and wasn’t beaten far by Tolworth winner Tahmuras in the other race.

He could hardly have been more impressive on debut and was quickly stepped up into Listed company. That may have come too soon, and he was unfortunate to bump into Tahmuras that day. His last run at Newcastle on Boxing Day was another impressive performance, making all and not seeing another rival in the process.

Seven-year-olds don’t have a great record in this race, which doesn’t bode well for Ginny’s Destiny, Givega and Mexico. Knowsley Road and Grey Dawning haven’t beaten much in their races to date, and they certainly haven’t won their races in the manner that Snake Roll has done. It’s a bit of a shock to see Snake Roll as big in the betting as he is, and we expect him to be much shorter come the off.

Harbour Lake (2.40 Kempton) – E/W Lucky 15

It’s a welcome return to softer ground for Alan King’s HARBOUR LAKE, who has a fantastic record when the ground has a bit of give in it. He’s run well in all three runs this season and is more than capable of winning a race of this nature.

With a 11B114 (4-6) record on ground deemed soft/good to soft, he should be relishing the recent rain and he’s been dropped 1lb for his recent fourth at Aintree. He was previously entered in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle last season, but was ruled out on a vets certificate. If connections felt he was worthy of racing at that level, he should be up to winning this.

Most bookies are offering 5-6 places for this, with SkyBet going a huge seven places. Aside from being brought down at Huntingdon last year, Harbour Lake has never finished outside the top four, so it would be a shock if he didn’t finish in the top four again here.

Guetapan Collonges (3.00 Warwick) – E/W Lucky 15

The younger horses do well in this, and we’re backing one of the younger horses in GUETAPAN COLLONGES. The 7YO has won three of his last four and looks a perfect fit for this.

He gets in here off a low weight (10-3) and has been staying on strongly in his races well enough to suggest he can handle this step up in trip. His win here last time out was a cracking effort and the third and fourth have boosted the form by winning their next races.

There’s been just one winning favourite of this race in the past ten years, which doesn’t bode well for Willie Mullins’ Mr Incredible. In that same timeframe, the biggest weight a winner has carried is 11-7, which rules out a number of these runners, including Threeunderthrufive. We’re confident Guetepan Collonges has a decent chance in this and we’d be shocked if he doesn’t finish in the top three. Most bookies are paying four places too so he looks a solid E/W pick.

Glimpse Of Gala (3.35 Warwick) – E/W Lucky 15

Another race that tends to go to the younger horses and one screams out to us in this – GLIMPSE OF GALA. These races are often hard to call, with horses happy to run into a place in order to qualify, so the fact Glimpse Of Gala has finished in the top three in all four races this season bodes well!

Charlie Longsdon’s mare has form around here having won here in 2021, and is in excellent form of late, winning his last race and finishing runner-up in the two before that. His overall record over hurdles reads F1213173221, with the only poor run came when he ran flat at Ayr back in April.

Young jockey Bradley Roberts seems to have a good connection on board the horse and was on board last time out when winning at Kempton over the festive period. His 7lb claim is good value here and we’re confident he can run into a place at a minimum.
