Listowel tips on Thursday 23 September

With the Listowel Harvest Festival meeting continuing into another day our tipping team have picked out their Listowel tips on Thursday for the day’s flat racing meeting.

The Listowel Harvest Festival meeting continues on Thursday with an eight race card which sees the day’s racing action revert back to the flat following yesterday’s Kerry National fixture over the sticks.

Among the eight races that will go to post there is a competitive big field Premier Handicap contest and our tipping team have picked out their Listowel tips on Thursday and best bets for the day’s action on the flat.

2:15 Listowel – Thorn Plant Hire Handicap (3yo+ 45-70) 1m

GALACTIC GREY might be the one to side with here having run well on just his second start following a lengthy layoff and Colm Donoghue’s charge can get off the mark here.

The Dark Angel gelding was making his stable debut following more than 600 days off the track when finishing fifth here in June, but he showed the benefit of that run to finish just a half-length off Big Island at Tipperary last month and a repeat of that run from the same mark can see him going one better here.

He conceded first run in that last start, meeting with some trouble and getting outpaced before running on and the slightly longer trip here ought to suit, while the form also took a small boost when the third won next time. Assuming then he can improve again for that most recent run following his long absence then he should be in the mix.

2:50 Listowel – MAC Fuels & General Supplies Maiden (3yo+) 1m

POWERFUL DON has finished third on both his starts to date and it might be worth chancing on the Power gelding to get off the mark at the third attempt.

Luke Comer’s cahrge has bumped into a couple of decent sorts in those runs, most recently finishing four lengths’ fourth to Alessandro Algardi at Cork earlier in the month where he may have gone off too hard and raced keenly throughout.

Also hampered late on although held he stuck to his task to hold onto third and that form received a boost when the fourth won at Fairyhouse a few days ago.

There may be better yet to come from him and no surprise to see him make his presence felt again in this contest.

3:25 Listowel – Kevin McManus Bookmaker Handicap (3yo+ 50-80) 7f

IS THAT LOVE has been kept busy in 2021, racing 17 times which has yielded five wins and while it has been a few runs since the Es Que Love gelding last got his head in front he ought to go well here again and can get back to winning ways.

Ado McGuinness’ charge struck his last success at Roscommon in May, beating Summer’s Dream but his form since has been a little patchy although he did run well to finish third at Fairyhouse most recently when beaten just a neck behind Got The Moves.

A repeat of that effort in a race which looks pretty thin on paper could be enough to see him get back to winning ways here with his rider able to use his full 7lbs this time around. A big run then wouldn’t come as a shock and he can collect here.

4:35 Listowel – Listowel Printing Works Handicap (Premier Handicap) (3yo+) 1m4f

MONTY’S WAY is very much unexposed compared to a lot of these and Joseph O’Brien’s charge can follow up his recent breakthrough victory now he tries handicaps.

The Fastnet Rock colt made the breakthrough when getting off the mark in an apprentices’ race at Roscommon in August when beating Duffle Coat by two lengths, keeping on well for the win and he has been handed a workable opening mark of 80 as he steps into the handicap ranks.

First-time cheekpieces are also deployed which could eke some improvement from the three-year old and good claimer Mikey Sheehy can take 5lbs off for his back for this run. He’s one open to plenty of progression on just his fourth career start and first in a handicap so a big performance wouldn’t be a surprise and he ought to make his presence felt here.
