Loader’s Lucky 15 – best bets on Monday, January 13

Chris Loader had winners at 11/10 and 7/1 on Sunday and puts his best bets into a Lucky 15, with selections at Lingfield, Southwell and Wolverhampton on Monday 13th January.

Impulsive Leader (1.35 Lingfield)

Impulsive Leader was never going to be involved on chasing debut against much better types in a hot contest at Plumpton, but this race  should be more in her favour. The seven-year-old mare hasn’t shown much so far  but there is ability in there off a basement mark of 74. Zoe Davison has been in good form at Lingfield this season operating at a 30% strike rate. It’s very likely this race will be a slog and with a low racing weight, Impulsive Leader could very well and outrun her odds to make the frame.

Custard The Dragon (2.30 Southwell)

Custard The Dragon is a legend at Southwell with six course-and-distance wins to his name but tt’s been a while since his last win, which came in January last year at Newcastle off a mark of 81. In this contest, he’s going to be racing off 70 and is dangerously well treated at the weights. The seven-year-old ran an encouraging race at Southwell last time running late on, the drop back to seven furlongs should suit and with plenty of pace from the field it could set up for a closer.

Fizzlestix (2.40 Lingfield)

Chris Gordon has been a trainer to follow this season with a profit of +17.55 to a £1 stake. Fizzlestix looks to have a strong chance here after running two respectable races since his return in November. His fifth-placed effort at Warwick has already worked out well with Jully Les Buxy winning at Lingfield last week. The son of Bonbon Ross was dropped to 98, which is 2lb below his last winning mark, he’s proven on testing ground and is taking a drop in class. I think today might be his day.

Almurr (5.20 Wolverhampton)

Almurr reacted well to first-time cheekpieces to score for Philip Makin at Wolverhampton this month and the form of that latest outing has aworked out well as the runner-up won at Lingfield last week. With a nice draw in stall 7, I expect him to follow up again with a late charge under the in-form Ben Curtis.
