WELL OF WISDOM (9/4, Coral) probably needed his latest start here earlier in the month and Charlie Appleby’s charge can get back on the winning trail.

The Oasis Dream colt won twice last term which included a French Listed contest prior to finishing runner-up in Group Three company in France and Germany. His reappearance here came on the back of more than five months off the track where he finished eighth with a subsequent winner behind him.

He should strip fitter for that reappearance as he steps up to one mile, and if he can find some improvement for the longer trip now he’s had a sighter then every chance he can get back to winning ways here.

3:40 – District One Residence Cup (Div 1) (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-108) 1m2f

Better was expected of FRANZ KAFKA (4/1, William Hill) here last month when Simon Crisford’s charge was sent off second-favourite; but the Dubawi gelding wasn’t seen at all at his best where he completely missed the break and possibly failed to handle the dirt surface.

A Brighton winner last term for John Gosden, he made a winning start for Crisford when scoring on turf at this course and distance, and returning to a more suitable surface he could be worth chancing to atone for that dismal performance last time out.

This is certainly no easy task, but he ought to be happier back on turf and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him bouncing back.

4:15 – District One Blueviews Stretch (Handicap) (Dirt) (3yo+ 90-105) 1m

MYSTIQUE MOON (11/2, William Hill) returned from almost eight months off the track with a success at Jebel Ali back in November. While he’s been beaten on both subsequent outings, Doug Watson’s charge could be worth chancing to get back on the wining trail.

A dual-winner for Charlie Appleby earlier in his career, he hasn’t fired in a handful of starts at this venue including in Listed company over ten furlongs on his penultimate start. However, he bounced back from that effort with a better run at Jebel Ali when last seen in January and that form doesn’t look too bad.

He’s been dropped 3lbs in the weights ahead of his return to this venue and in an open contest he could be worth giving another chance.

SECRET ADVISOR (9/2, Ladbrokes) had the reopposing Dubai Horizon behind when making a winning return to action over course and distance in January and Charlie Appleby’s charge can double up here.

The Dubawi gelding won the 2017 Melrose Stakes, but he was subsequently off the track for the thick end of two years prior to making his return last summer. He cut little ice in a pair of starts at Ascot and Newmarket, but he appeared to win a shade readily here last month and should build on that effort.

This is tougher, but he’s still an unexposed sort who could easily have more to offer and he can take this step up in class in his stride to strike again.

5:25 – Curlin Stakes Sponsored By Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City-District One (Listed Handicap) (Dirt) (3yo+ 90-108) 1m2f

GEORGE VILLIERS (7/2, William Hill) took the step up in trip in his stride when registering a ready win here last month and the Dubawi entire can follow up.

Sateesh Seemar’s charge was suited by the strong pace on that occasion and he’s likely to get a similar scenario here. He defied a wide draw last time out, but he has a much better racing position now and a 4lbs rise might not prevent a follow-up.

He arguably sets the form standard on that performance while his earlier defeat of Bochart last November looks all the stronger now and thoroughly unexposed over this ten furlongs trip he looks worth siding with again to follow up that last win.

6:00 – District One Residence (Div 2) (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-108) 1m2f

STYLEHUNTER (10/1, Ladbrokes) ran better than the bare result when finishing third here two weeks ago over a longer trip and Simon Crisford’s charge could be worth chancing to get back on the scoresheet.

The Raven’s Pass gelding won twice in his younger days for John Gosden as well as finish fourth in the 2019 Royal Hunt Cup. He might have needed his reappearance over one mile here in January behind Suedois, and he stepped up on that effort latest to finish two lengths’ third despite badly missing the break.

He can race here from the same mark and the booking of Oisin Murphy catches the eye for this assignment where he remains with scope to do better. If getting away from the stalls better then he can make his presence felt to make the frame.

6:35 – District One Mansions Trophy (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-109) 7f

FANAAR (20/1, Coral) doesn’t have the best of the draw, but the Dark Angel gelding is probably better than he was able to show here last week when eventually finishing fifth behind Epic Hero on his first start since last September.

Doug Watson’s charge won a Listed contest on the all-weather last term for William Haggas prior to joining this yard having disappointed on his final run in the Cunard Handicap. His reappearance effort wasn’t without incident and perhaps was a better run than it appears at face value having met with trouble in running and needing snatched up before running on well again.

With a bit more luck in running he could go close with a repeat of that effort where he competes from the same mark here and every chance he can make the frame again at a big price.
