MONDAY HORSE RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT CARLISLE, SOUTHWELL & WOLVERHAMPTON
1:15 Southwell – “Off The Fence” On youtube.com/attheraces Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-120) 3m½f
HOLDBACKTHERIVER was still travelling well and holding every chance when falling four out at Chepstow earlier in the month and if none the worse for that spill Evan Williams’ charge can get back on track.
The Presenting gelding is a dual-chase winner scoring his last at Chepstow last January and his return effort at Ffos Las in November was bettered when he finished a good fifth at Exeter next time where his stamina was possibly just stretched by the extreme trip although he was only beaten four lengths by Findusatgorcombe.
An unchanged mark for that last run leaves him just 1lb higher than his last winning rating and he can bounce back here with a win if putting in a clear round of jumping.
1:35 Carlisle – MansionBet’s Proud To Sponsor British Racing Handicap Chase (Northern Lights Middle Distance Qual’) Cl4 (5yo+ 0-110) 2m4f
SCOTTISH ACCENT has been finding a couple too good in his starts to date and Rebecca Menzies’ charge is still hunting for a first career win. However the Golan gelding has proven consistent and this could be the day he gets some just reward for his efforts.
He’s finished in the frame in each of his last three starts, twice finishing runner-up in outings at Sedgefield and Newcastle before most recently finishing third at Musselburgh although he was beaten a fair distance on that latter occasion.
The sharper track was possibly against him however and he faced competition for the lead on that occasion; he could do better at this much stiffer track and the form of that last run took a boost when the winner scored again next time.
He’s been dropped 2lbs in the weights also and still relatively unexposed as a chaser he could prove the answer here where he might be able to boss his rivals from the front, while stamina for further will help should this become a slog.
2:10 Carlisle – MansionBet Faller Insurance Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 2m3½f
ETERNALLY YOURS won two of her first three starts over hurdles back in 2018 and although the Sulamani mare has been winless since she has posted some solid efforts in defeat.
Donald Whillans’ charge most recently was denied only by a nose by the useful Kateson at Aintree back in December, taking up the running two out and keeping on well but just losing out on the nod.
That winner has since finished third in a Grade Three while the third filled the same spot in the Listed Lanzarote Hurdle; the fourth also won next time before twice contesting Grade Two company and while he’s 4lbs higher here this represents an easier grade and she ought to go close.
2:40 Carlisle – MansionBet’s Bet 10 Get 20 Handicap Chase (Challenger Staying Chase Series Qualifier) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-130) 3m½f
ORRISDALE struck at the first time of asking over hurdles to add to an earlier bumper win and Jonjo O’Neill’s charge showed up well in defeat in subsequent starts over timber, making the frame both times in testing ground.
The Oscar gelding hasn’t been disgraced in defeat over fences either this term, unlucky to be brought down on his chase debut at Southwell but then finishing fourth at Wetherby next time and finding only Flagrant Delitiep too good at Hereford latest.
That one did little harm to the form over the weekend past while the fourth won next time out and he might have given the winner something to think about had he not pecked on landing over the second-last obstacle.
First-time blinkers now applied could sharpen him up and he can go close here despite a 4lbs rise in the handicap where the return to a longer trip ought to suit.
3:20 Southwell – Download The At The Races App Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 3m½f
TERRIERMAN has gone the wrong way over fences in recent outings since a solid runner-up effort at Market Rasen last November; however Dan Skelton’s charge is taken to get back on track returning to hurdling in first-time blinkers and the Getaway gelding can go close here.
A course and distance winner in soft ground on just his second start over hurdles he made the frame on all three subsequent runs without adding to his tally and he reverts here to the smaller obstacles 3lbs below his last hurdles mark that saw him deliver that trio of placed efforts.
He might have unfinished business over hurdles and the return to the smaller obstacles could serve as a confidence booster having disappointed over fences latterly and representing a red-hot yard he could bounce back to form here if the blinkers have a positive effect.
5:10 Wolverhampton – Betway Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-90) 6f
SUN POWER has scored both of his career wins over this course and distance and the Night Of Thunder gelding might be worth chancing to get back on the winning trail.
Having struck over course and distance for Richard Hannon after which he contested in Listed and Graded company he lost his way last summer and moved to Jane Chapple-Hyam for whom he’s had four starts.
He got back on the winning trail for his new yard with a course and distance success in December where he ran out a narrow winner over El Hombre and he bounced back from a lesser run at Lingfield last month with a good third at Chelmsford latest behind Edraak.
Dropped 1lb and equipped with cheekpieces now he could be sparked into form returning to the scene of his two victories and although there’s no shortage of pace in this contest and likely competition for the lead he could post a big run.
5:40 Wolverhampton – Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-65) 6f
NOZIERES has done little wrong since switching to the handicap ranks, finishing a close runner-up both times in starts at Lingfield over this trip and the Mayson filly can get off the mark now.
Tony Carson’s charge struggled in maiden company where she didn’t trouble the judge in three starts; but switching to handicaps she was beaten only a short-head by Jennivere and then went down by less than one length next time behind Nurse Florence where she ran on strongly having had the worst of the draw.
She has a wide draw to try to overcome again while she’s 2lbs higher in the weights for this latest outing which will demand a shade more from her; but there could be better to come handicapping and she could go one better here to open her win account in a fairly ordinary looking race.
