SOUTHWELL RACING TIPS

(2.30 Southwell)

TWOTWOTHREE has taken well to chasing, returning from a break to post back-to-back wins at Bangor and Huntingdon over the larger obstacles earlier in the campaign.

The Shantou gelding has had excuses for his two subsequent outings, possibly finding heavy ground just too testing before failing to cut much ice in a higher grade affair at Doncaster latest.

This is an easier assignment facing Oliver Greenall’s charge now and easing 3lbs in the weights he could be capable of bouncing back to winning form here.

He’s won on soft ground in the past, so the possible heavy conditions remain a slight concern; but if the ground doesn’t inconvenience then it isn’t hard to see him going well and he can strike.

(3.00 Southwell)

MANOR PARK has shaped with some promise in a handful of starts over hurdles and Alan King’s charge might be able to break his duck over obstacles here with a win.

The Medicean gelding was a winner on the flat and he’s made the frame a couple of times since his switch to obstacles although he pulled too hard when last seen out at Warwick in January. He finished sixth that day, probably doing too much.

He finished just behind a subsequent winner however and could do better here now he’s dropped 2lbs in the weights and with Adrian Heskin taking over in the saddle. This doesn’t look the strongest of contests and he can make his presence felt.

2.00 – Virnon
2.30 – Twotwothree
3.00 – Manor Park
3.30 – Sheshoon Sonny
4.00 – City Never Sleeps
4.30 – Fizzlestix

KELSO RACING TIPS

(3.10 Kelso)

SKYHILL saw his run of winning form ended at Newcastle last time out behind Oscar Ceremony; but the Gold Well gelding had won his four previous starts over fences and hurdles – including at this venue – and might be able to bounce back with a return to winning ways.

A couple of late mistakes probably didn’t aid his cause last time out, but back over hurdles for this outing he might be capable of better despite a stiff-looking mark given he has a good record here and this doesn’t look a particularly strong contest.

He has proved he goes well in these conditions and if seeing out the longer trip then it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him returning to winning form.

(3.40 Kelso)

PROPER TICKET was a winner between the flags in Ireland and the Gold Well mare has shown some promise in three starts over hurdles, latterly finsihing fourth behind Molly Olly’s Wishes although she was a fair way adrift of the winner.

Fergal O’Brien’s charge has seen that form boosted – the winner and runner-up swapped places on their next run – and a mark of 108 could prove workable now she steps into a handicap for the first time.

The presence of Brian Hughes in the saddle is a plus and with the potential for improvement over this extra furlong then she can open her account over timber here.

2.10 – Little Rory Mac
2.40 – Duc De Grissay
3.10 – Skyhill
3.40 – Proper Ticket
4.10 – Ascot De Bruyere
4.40 – Project Mars

HEREFORD RACING TIPS

(2.50 Hereford)

SACKETT had been in fair form last summer, winning at Cartmel and twice finishing runner-up prior to a break. The Midnight Legend gelding was then entitled to have needed his return over hurdles at Chepstow in November.

Neil King’s charge ran better than the bare result despite being pulled up in the Sussex National where he hit a few fences on the way round, not jumping with any real fluency. But he should find this a deal easier than that contest and he’s been eased slightly in the weights.

Richard Johnson takes over in the saddle here and he could be worth giving another chance here. He can get back on the score sheet in a more suitable race and no surprise to see him go close.

(4.20 Hereford)

ANGEL’S ENVY might be worth chancing to build on a promising debut third over fences at Wetherby earlier in the month and Laura Morgan’s charge could improve for that experience to do better here.

Fair over hurdles although still a maiden in that sphere, the Yeats mare switched to the larger obstacles where she finished ten lengths’ third behind the ready winner Shougar on her first start for six months.

She’s entitled to come on for that outing and might be capable of better so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see her show improvement from a 2lbs lower mark and upped in trip for this assignment.

2.20 – Loughan
2.50 – Sackett
3.20 – Demachine
3.50 – Ballybreen
4.20 – Angel’s Envy
4.50 – The Edgar Wallace
