Monday racing best bets – Tips for Hereford, Doncaster and Wolverhampton
Horse racing best bets on Monday 11 January
With the potential for three UK horse racing fixtures to go to post on Monday to get the new week underway we’ve picked out our Monday racing best bets and tips at each meeting.
Assuming the recent cold spell doesn’t continue to have an adverse effect on the scheduled horse racing fixtures there should be three meetings going to post on Monday with jumps racing in the afternoon from the cards at Doncaster and Hereford; while Wolverhampton in the evening accounts for the day’s all-weather action under the floodlights on their tapeta surface.
We’ve looked through all three of the day’s fixtures to pick out our Monday racing best bets and tips.
MONDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR HEREFORD, DONCASTER & WOLVERHAMPTON
12:50 Hereford – Foxtrot Racing Thrill Of Ownership Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m3½f
BANGERS AND CASH didn’t show a great deal on his debut in a Fontwell bumper back in November bu the Fame And Glory gelding improved markedly on that performance switched to hurdles for his next run where Ben Pauling’s charge found only Ocean Drifter too strong at Southwell last month.
He made a couple of mistakes on that occasion behind a potentially useful winner, but the experience won’t have been lost on him and he can do better with that under his belt.
The form of that Southwell debut looks decent and he can progress to get off the mark on this occasion with Jonjo O’Neill Jr booked for the ride.
1:05 Doncaster – Sky Bet Extra Place Races Every Day Maiden Hurdle Cl5 (4yo+) 2m5f
Paul Nicholls is having a good spell at present and BROKEN HALO can go close on his hurdles debut.
The Kayf Tara gelding was a point-to-point winner in Ireland for Colin Bowe, winning his sole start in that sphere back in April 2019 prior to moving to this yard for a six-figure sum.
He’s not been seen out since which is a slight concern but he’s unlikely to want for fitness given his top yard and market support for the six-year old would be significant.
This isn’t an easy introduction taking on a 127-rated rival on his first attempt over timber but with the yard in good fettle he could be worth siding with to open his account at the first attempt.
2:50 Hereford – foxtrotracing.com Great Value Red Caps Syndicate Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m
SONG OF THE HUNTER got off the mark at the first time of asking over hurdles at Taunton back in March last year and the Network gelding was set to go close over this course and distance when falling two out while in the lead.
Gail Haywood’s charge has been nudged up 2lbs for that effort but he has the services of good 7lbs claimer Kevin Brogan for this assignment and with a clear round he ought to go close.
He’ll be sharper with that last run under his belt and he held a two lengths’ advantage when coming down and while debatable whether he’d have held on he would surely have been involved; he can gain some compensation here.
3:10 Doncaster – Sky Bet Best Odds Guaranteed Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Northern Lights Mares’ Hurdle Series Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m3½f
Lightly-raced GETAWEAPON can get back to winning ways having chased home Misty Whisky at Ludlow when last seen out last month.
Kim Bailey’s Getaway mare was a winner between the flags prior to joining this yard and having gone close on her debut for this yard in a Ffos Las bumper she got off the mark at the first attempt over hurdles at Hereford in November.
The form of her last run is working out well; the fourth has won since while the winner found only one too good in the Lanzarote Hurdle at the weekend and this mark looks workable on her handicap debut.
A slight drop back in trip should be no issue and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her get back on the scoresheet.
4:45 Wolverhampton – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Fillies’ Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-75) 7f
PERFECT ROSE produced some patchy form for Mark Johnston despite showing some ability on her first couple of starts for the Middleham trainer where she made the frame both times; she’s not matched that level of form however and she has since left that yard to pitch up at Archie Watson’s stable.
The Oasis Dream filly failed to fire on her first couple of runs for her new yard but she produced a better effort when last seen racing over this course and distance earlier in the month where she finished runner-up behind Kylla Looks, beaten just a head.
This mark is very much within her grasp to exploit and she was arguably not seen to best effect last time, conceding first run to the winner but finishing off the race strongly. A repeat of that ought to see her in the mix again and every chance she can go one better here.
6:15 Wolverhampton – Play 4 To Win At Betway Handicap Cl4 (4yo+ 0-85) 5f
VERNE CASTLE came back to form following a number of lesser efforts when finding only Royal Birth too strong by a head at Lingfield earlier in the month; however the Sakhee’s Secret gelding can go one better here to get back on the scoresheet.
Michael Wigham’s charge struck his last success back in February last year when beating Lancelot Du Lac by a short-head from 3lbs higher than this mark and if he can build on that latest effort he could well be the one to side with having struck the crossbar latest.
He was run down late last time by the winner but racing off the same mark he ought to go close easing into a Class 4 contest.
