MONDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S FLAT RACING ACTION
2:05 Yarmouth – Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 1m3½f
JAWHARY is still relatively unexposed after just five career runs and the Cable Bay gelding got off the mark when scoring at Goodwood in June, beating Oriental Art and Owen Burrows’ charge can get back to winning ways here.
He possibly just needed the run when finishing two lengths’ runner-up behind Bascule at Lingfield when last seen twelve days ago where he was returning from almost four months off, but he didn’t help his cause by missing the break and may have used up too much petrol as he couldn’t keep his effort going to the line.
That race has thrown up a subsequent winner and he can go one better here to resume winning ways equipped with cheekpieces which could help him eke out some improvement, while the handicapper has only pushed him up another 1lb which leaves him still on a workable mark.
3:00 Musselburgh – British EBF Flying Scotsman Conditions Stakes Cl3 (3yo+) 5f
Speedy EL ASTRONAUTE can get back on the winning trail and John Quinn’s useful sprinter has to be afforded plenty of respect in this line-up.
The Approve gelding has kept some good company this term since winning at Chester in May and he went close in a Goodwood sprint when beaten only by Lord Riddiford before disappointing at Hamilton in a conditions event won by Emaraaty Ana.
That is some strong form and he ran better than the bare result when last seen at York in a valuable contest where he went off too hard in that big field contest and din’t get home. This smaller field ought to see him to better effect and the fast five furlongs here will certainly suit the front-runner as will soft ground which will hold few fears.
While he’s not getting any younger and so could prove vulnerable to the younger ones in the field he remains one to watch with plenty in his favour for this contest and no surprise if he were to go well.
3:25 Wolverhampton – Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 6f
TWILIGHT SECRET has been on good form on the all-weather since making his debut over course and distance back in March where he chased home Dragon Symbol and the Twilight Son colt comes into this race having won last time up back over C&D.
James Tate’s charge struck by three-parts of a length from Show Me A Sunset, travelling well through the race and appearing to win with something to spare. That runner-up has won since to give the form a little boost and he’s still relatively unexposed so could easily have more to give.
The handicapper has only pushed him up 2lbs following that breakthrough win and given his record here already he can go well in pursuit of a winning double under William Buick who takes the reins for this assignment.
3:35 Musselburgh – Racing TV Profits Back To Racing Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 5f
ALBEGONE has the bit between his teeth at present and Tim Easterby’s charge can get back to winning ways in this open-looking contest.
The Alhebayeb gelding opened his win account when going in over course and distance last month and he proved again his ability to handle soft ground when doubling up in impressive fashion at Hamilton seven days later under a penalty.
Quicker ground and a double-penalty to carry at Redcar saw him thwarted in his hat-trick attempt but he still ran a cracker to go down only by a head behind High Security and he can continue his good spell of form to get back on the scoresheet from only 3lbs higher here back on softer ground.
There could still be better to come from him and the form of his Hamilton win is working out so there’d be little surprise in seeing him go well again here and he can get back on the scoresheet.
4:35 Wolverhampton – Read Hollie Doyle’s Column On attheraces.com Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 1m1½f
Lightly-raced PRETTY SWEET can continue her race-by-race progress and the Iffraaj filly ought to go close here.
George Boughey’s charge got off the mark at the third attempt when scoring at Bath last month having finished runner-up on both previous starts and she found only reopposing Fierospeed too much to handle over this course and distance latest, conceding first run but only being denied a short-head with the pair clear.
On these better terms she can reverse that form this time around and she remains capable of better still after just four runs. If getting a little more luck in running she ought to make her presence felt and the booking of William Buick is a positive so every chance of a big run and a return to winning ways.
6:30 Kempton – Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap Cl5 (3yo 0-75) 6f
PINBALL WIZARD could prove a tough nut to crack here and Clive Cox’s charge can add another win to his record.
The Dark Angel gelding has won two of his last stree starts, most recently when going in over course and distance with something to spare from Starter For Ten with a three lengths’ victory over that rival.
That was his second success over course and distance and while the handicapper has reacted by pushing him up 8lbs he likely has even more to come given he looks one who still has further progression to come.
This doesn’t look a particularly strong affair and there’d be no surprise in seeing him firmly in the mix again where he can maintain his perfect record over course and distance.
