MONDAY TIPS FOR ROSCOMMON – TODAY’S IRISH RACING BEST BETS
1:20 Roscommon – Boyle Maiden Hurdle (4yo) 1m7½f
TREBIZOND has improved for a break and application of a tongue-tie to finish runner-up in each of his last two starts and it might be worth chancing the Golden Horn gelding to get off the mark now.
Henry de Bromhead’s charge has been rated 111 in the wake of hurdles exploits to date and he wasn’t disgraced despite failing to land cramped odds latest at Wexford behind Barnacullia where he had reopposing Boola Boola ten lengths in arrears.
That winner has run well in defeat in much stronger races and he might have finished closer last time but for a poor jump at the last. However his experience and rating count for plenty in what doesn’t look a particularly deep race and he can open his account here.
1:55 Roscommon – Athlone Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 1m7½f
ROMELLA comes into this contest on the back of a last-time win and the Milan mare could be capable of following up here.
John Walsh’s charge won a shade readily that day from April’s Moon under this rider when going in at Clonmel and the front two had pulled ten lengths clear of the rest.
The runner-up has gone on to collect a number of placed efforts to give the form some substance and a 7lbs rise in the weights for that latest victory might not prove enough of a burden against a repeat assuming a lay-off hasn’t taken the edge from her.
3:35 Roscommon – Ballymore Group Irish EBF Kilbegnet Novice Chase (Grade 3) (4yo+) 2m½f
DRUID’S ALTAR has taken well to chasing, winning three of five starts in this sphere and Joseph O’Brien’s charge can continue his improvement to strike again.
Wins at Limerick and Killarney were added to when the Mastercraftsman gelding struck at Wexford latest where he ran out an impressive winner from Jungle Junction and there could be better still to come from him over the larger obstacles on that evidence.
He travelled really well into that contest, jumping fluently and he readily asserted for a comfortable victory. While that form hasn’t quite stood up he remains with plenty of scope as a chaser and he was smart over hurdles so likely has more to offer.
He has something to find on bare form with Bold Enough who finished ahead of him in the Rockshore Chase at Galway but he’s entitled to make his presence felt and the improving chaser can go well here.
4:05 Roscommon – Irish Stallions Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase (4yo+) 2m5½f
VALENTINA LADY wasn’t seen to best effect at Galway back in July when only midfield in a competitive contest, but she had won well the time before at Wexford and can get back on track here.
Paul Nolan’s charge was a bumper winner at Naas back in 2019 after which she contested a Listed contest in that sphere and she shaped with ability over hurdles last autumn in three starts prior to a break.
The Oscar mare now tackles fences for the first time and tackles a longer trip; but her last hurdles win came over 2m4f and she should appreciate the test so looks to hold big claims if taking to the larger obstacles under her good claimer.
