Getting underway from 11.30pm the fixture offers solid support to Saturday’s UK racing action at Sandown and elsewhere, and we’ve looked over the fixture to pick out our Navan Irish racing tips and best bets.

12:33 Navan – Hotel Park St Johann Tirol Austria Maiden Hurdle (Div II) (4yo+) 2m4f

Some interesting hurdling debutantes are sent out by several top yards in this contest but hurdling experience might be crucial and so LIFETIME AMBITION gets the vote having shaped well on his hurdles bow at Punchestown last month.

Jessica Harrington’s Kapgarde gelding found only one too good on that occasion where he was beaten less than one length behind Fighter Allen and he could improve for that experience where the front pair pulled clear.

These conditions won’t present an issue given it was heavy ground when last seen and with potential to progress he could prove the answer in a tricky maiden contest.

1:08 Navan – eCOMM Merchant Solutions Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) (4yo+) 3m½f

THE BOSSES OSCAR has shown plenty of ability over hurdles thus far, winning at Leopardstown on just his second try over timber enroute to finishing a highly creditable fifth in the Martin Pipe Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Gordon Elliott’s charge subsequently returned to action following more than seven months off with a ready success at Thurles back in October, keeping on well and there’s surely more in the locker to come from the Oscar gelding who can progress again.

His rating is unchanged and this is a tougher contest, but he’s unexposed and has potential to improve for this longer trip so he could be worth sticking with to follow up his success last time where he’ll be sharper for the run and no surprise to see him in the mix.

2:53 Navan – Foxrock Handicap Chase (Grade B) (4yo+ 0-150) 2m4f

Lightly-raced MASSEY’S WOOD was highly tried last term over fences, taking on the likes of Allaho and Spyglass Hill in outings and the unexposed Black Sam Bellamy gelding made a winning return to action on his stable debut following more than eight months off the track at Down Royal in October.

There Barry Connell’s charge ran out an easy lengths’ victor over Askann, scoring by almost five lengths when returned to three miles and while this drop back in trip might not prove wholly ideal he might be worth chancing nonetheless with likely plenty of emphasis on stamina.

He’d also won over three miles when successful over hurdles at Thurles earlier in his career and there may be better to come from the unexposed eight-year old over the larger obstacles. The handicapper has hit him hard with an 11lbs rise in the ratings for his reappearance success, but he should strip fitter and having won readily in that last outing he can take this rise in class in his stride where he can continue to make his presence felt.
