NAVAN JUMPS RACING ON SUNDAY – IRISH RACING TIPS OVER THE STICKS
1:10 Navan – Lismullen Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+) 2m4f
FLOORING PORTER can get back on track following a disappointing run when last seen at Punchestown and the Cheltenham Festival hero ought to bounce back following a break.
Gavin Cromwell’s charge was progressive last term, winning over course and distance to kick-start a hat-trick of victories culminating in success in the Stayers’ Hurdle, but he ran flat subsequently in the Irish equivalent behind Klassical Dream, eventually pulling up.
He’s been off since but starts out here on the road to recovery where he can leave that last run behind and if recapturing the level of form he had shown at Cheltenham previously then he ought to prove tough to beat here.
1:45 Navan – Hotel Park St. Johann In Tirol Austria Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m
EASCA PEASCA produced a career-best effort to score in a novice contest at Gowran Park last month and the Born To Sea gelding can follow up that victory here as he enters the handicap ranks for the first time.
A winner on the flat for John Oxx prior to joining this yard he’s been steadily progressive over hurdles, finishing runner-up three times over the summer and improving for a break to gain a neck victory over Showbusiness latest.
Brian Hamilton’s charge showed good tenacity to battle back there and he steps into handicapping from a workable mark while Shane Fitgerald is very good value for his 5lbs claim so a big run could be in the offing here and he can go well.
2:20 Navan – Safer Gambling Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-116) 2m6f
GASPARD DU SEUIL had looked a progressive hurdler prior to shaping as if amiss at Leopardstown over Christmas behind Galliard Du Mesnil, pulled up; but Henry De Bromhead’s charge bounced back after nine months off to find only one too good at Listowel on his recent reappearance and the Fuisse gelding can go one better here.
He shaped as if in need of that effort despite his finishing position, held when making mistakes over the last two obstacles but keeping on well to hold onto the runner-up berth and he should come on considerably for that run.
Switching to handicaps now he could be fairly weighted off this mark where a 113 rating looks workable and with the yard beginning to find some form he can do better here on the back of that return to action.
