NEWMARKET CAMBRIDGESHIRE MEETING TIPS – THROUGH THE CARD BEST BETS ON DAY TWO
1:15 Newmarket – Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet British EBF Maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings) Cl4 (2yo) 7f
Al Jaddaf boasts arguably the strongest form but the Godolphin colt has to show he can handle turf and it might pay to take him on with SPINAROUND who has already encountered turf and ran well latest despite looking green at Leicester earlier in the month.
The Kodiac colt finished third on that occasion behind New Dimension and that form has since been given a boost with the runner-up winning since.
He’s entitled to progress further on the back of that last run given he still looked in need of the experience and a further step forward can’t be ruled out for powerful connections so every chance he can get off the mark now at the third attempt.
1:50 Newmarket – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day EBF Rosemary Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m
FOORAAT has yet to win on turf with her two career successes both coming on the all-weather, but Roger Varian’s charge has posted some very good performances on grass and can get back to winning ways here.
Runner-up in a Listed contest at Kempton in April she ran well in sixth when contesting the Group Two Duke Of Cambridge Stakes during Royal Ascot and was denied only by a head latest at York in the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes when finishing third to Aristia.
She was arguably unlucky there as she was outpaced at a point in the race and hampered before running on strongly again. That run was over further than this but she ought to have little issue returning to one mile and with plenty of pace on she can make her presence felt in what looks an easier contest than that last York run.
2:25 Newmarket – Unibet Princess Royal Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f
Jessica Harrington’s runners in Ireland this week have been red-hot and the good form of the County Kildare trainer can continue with FORBEARANCE who makes the trip across the Irish Sea to contest this Group Three prize.
The Galileo filly has yet to finish out of the frame this term and has won twice with victories at Down Royal and on her last foray to these shores when successful at York in the Listed Galtres Stakes where she prevailed by a nose from Domino Darling.
Stepped up to this level latest at Leopardstown she was only beaten a half-length into third behind Camorra in the Paddy Power Stakes where a subsequent winner has since come out of those who finished behind the selection.
She’ll likely need Yorkshire Oaks runner-up Albaflora to run below her best in order to collect this valuable contest, but she should ensure that one doesn’t have an easy time of things and with the yard in excellent form she looks worth an interest to cause an upset.
3:00 Newmarket – Unibet Rockfel Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) Cl1 (2yo) 7f
OSCULA could get back on track here having run well in defeat last time out in the Prix du Calvados and George Boughey’s charge can give a good account.
The Galileo Gold filly has proven really progressive this term, winning at Brighton and Epsom before posting a very good third behind Sandrine in the Group Three Albany Stakes and she subsequently finished fourth behind the same rival in this grade on the July Course when contesting the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.
More recent runs has seen her step up to seven furlongs where she readily took a Group Three contest at Deauville at the first attempt and subsequently beaten only one length by Accakaba latest. The runner-up from that contest has won a Group Three since and there may be better yet to come from her over this distance given she’s still unexposed.
She’s shown she can handle better ground and undulating tracks so ought to have no problems with conditions here and every chance she can go close for her shrewd yard.
3:35 Newmarket – Unibet “You’re On” Joel Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m
BENBATL took this prize two years ago and finished third last term and the Dubawi entire can get back to winning ways having been sharpened up by a recent return at Goodwood.
Saeed bin Suroor’s classy sort doesn’t stand a lot of racing and possibly needed that return to action in the Celebration Mile where he was nutted on the line by Lavender’s Blue and losing out only by a short-head.
He is entitled to come on for that run which was his first in eleven months although he’s proven very capable when fresh in the past and the ground here is very much in his favour so another big run wouldn’t be a surprise as he bids to go one better and regain his crown.
He does need to give 4lbs to 2000 Guineas runner-up and fellow Godolphin horse Master Of The Seas, but the battle-hardened seven-year old doesn’t have too many miles on the clock despite his age and ought to make his presence felt again here.
4:10 Newmarket – Play Slingo Startburst At Unibet Godolphin Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f
STAR SAFARI represents a yard with a good recent record in this even and the Sea The Stars gelding can get back to winning ways here.
A dual-winner in Meydan over the winter months which include a Group Three he rounded off his time in the Emirates with a creditable sixth behind Mishriff in the Sheema Classic prior to a break.
The Godolphin runner returned to action on the July Course with a solid third in the Princess Of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes where he was beaten three lengths by Sir Ron Priestley and latterly ran better than the bare result when seventh in France latest behind Glycon and that form looks very strong now.
Given another breather he returns to action here where he holds solid claims of posting a return to winning ways and giving Charlie Appleby a third win in the race in five years.
4:40 Newmarket – Unibet Casino Deposit £10 And Get £40 Bonus Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m1f
Quite a few in with chances here but FIREWORKS looks the least exposed and the Kingman gelding can continue his progression switching to the handicap ranks now.
William Haggas’ charge has bettered her finishing position with each start, getting off the mark at the third attempt when running out a comfortable winner at Beverley last month on his first outing since being gelded.
He justified long odds-on on that occasion, readily overcoming a slow start to win easily and the third from that race has won since.
Now stepping into a handicap for the first time his opening 86 rating could prove very workable and he can improve further for this longer trip so another big performance and a follow up victory would certainly come as no surprise.
