RACING TIPS FOR SUNDAY – BEST BETS AT KEMPTON & SEDGEFIELD OVER THE STICKS
1:30 Kempton – Racing Welfare For The Racing Community Novices’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m2f
LIGHT N STRIKE has proven a largely consistent performer and the Leading Light gelding can get off the mark over hurdles.
Emma Lavelle’s charge had made the frame on each of his last three starts, most recently finding only one too good over a longer trip at this venue in May where he found only Will Carver to strong by twelve lengths where he may just have found the trip stretching him.
That form looks solid with the winner and third both winning again since and he could improve now tackling the larger obstacles on the back of a wind operation. The handicapper might have him on a very fair mark as he steps immediately into the handicap ranks and if fit to go on his first start in almost six months then he ought to make his presence felt.
2:40 Kempton – Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap Chase Cl3 (4yo+ 0-140) 2m2f
MERCIAN PRINCE might be worth chancing to get back to winning ways here and Amy Murphy’s Midnight Legend gelding has a good record here.
His last chase success came at this venue last November when beating Caroline’s Charm by twelve lengths and he’s continued in good fettle since returning from a break and wind surgery where he won over hurdles at Worcester in June and placed over the larger obstacles the last twice.
The latest of those came when equipped with blinkers for the first time, only run down late by Leapaway at Worcester despite jumping right so a return to this venue where he has a good record will suit and a repeat of that effort should put him in the mix from only 2lbs higher.
3:30 Sedgefield – Vickers Independent Family Run Bookmaker Durham National Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-145) 3m5f
BRIAN BORANHA has a good record in this race, taking top honours in 2018 and running well in defeat in the last two renewals, finishing third in the latest twelve months ago behind Red Giant.
Peter Niven’s veteran isn’t one to trust implicitly as he can throw in the odd stinker of a run, but he’s a fair sort when in the mood and a thorough stayer who can make his presence felt in this race if arriving fully wound up.
His last run saw him finish third over this course back in March behind Silva Eclipse, beaten two lengths and he turns out here only 1lb higher although 8lbs below the mark from which he took this prize in 2018.
Fitness will have to be taken on trust but he’s very capable of making his mark here if turning out at his best at a venue where he usually runs well.
3:50 Kempton – Natasha Savage, Thank You & Good Luck Handicap Chase Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 3m
MISTER TICKLE is thriving over fences and the Morozov gelding can continue his upward progress with another win despite the handicapper’s attempts to anchor him.
Gary Moore’s charge has won his last three, most recently posting a five lengths’ defeat of Marble Moon at Fontwell at the beginning of the month where he beat Marble Moon who has done little harm to the form since when runner-up at Wincanton a few days ago.
He’s up 5lbs here but jockey Niall Houlihan can utilise his full claim on this occasion so he’s effectively only 3lbs higher than when posting that last time success and still with the potential to improve further he can land the four-timer.
4:40 Sedgefield – Cavellos Italian Steakhouse Gin & Cocktail Bar Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-130) 2m4f
THE VOLLAN lost his way for Charlie Longsdon for a fair while but rounded off his time with that trainer with a win at Worcester in July and now with Laura Morgan the Scorpion gelding can follow up.
Taking advantage of a sliding mark he ran out a narrow winner from I’m So Busy, overcoming a late mistake to grind out a game win and the third and fifth horses home in that race have both won since so a 3lbs rise in the weights looks very fair.
Still well-handicapped on the pick of last season’s efforts he can get in the mix again if reproducing a similar performance to last time and no surprise if he were to go close.
