ROSCOMMON RACING TIPS ON MONDAY – IRISH HORSE RACING BEST BETS
4:45 Roscommon – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (2yo) 7½f
PRIDE OF DERRY has bettered his finishing position each of his last three starts and if the Pride Of Dubai colt can continue that sequence then Ciaran Murphy’s charge can get off the mark at the fourth attempt.
He’s been improving with every start, building on a solid debut to finish third at Down Royal two starts ago and that form looks useful; while he went one better latest at Galway when just denied by Malayan despite meeting trouble in running.
Likely to have better to come he ought to continue to progress and he can make his presence felt here with a breakthrough win.
5:15 Roscommon – Irish EBF Auction Series Race (IRE Incentive Race) (2yo) 7½f
It might be worth giving another chance to SNAPIUS who was a winner at Limerick back in June and runner-up on his penultimate start at Galway prior to tackling the competitive Ballyhane Stakes at Naas earlier in the month where he was never a factor.
That run may have come too soon as it was just 2 days after Galway while he was drawn on the wrong part of the track and never got involved at the business end, eventually beating only two home.
A return to this extra furlong will suit as will a smaller field scenario and Joseph O’Brien’s charge could bounce back here with Mikey Sheehy able to take 5lbs off this time around.
7:15 Roscommon – Lecarrow Maiden (3yo+) 1m4f
ANNER CASTLE has been running well in defeat on all four of his starts to date and Jessica Harrington’s charge can get off the mark here.
The Fastnet Rock colt finished fourth twice earlier in the campaign including in a Listed contest after which he returned from a break with successive third-place finishes at Killarney and Galway latterly when beaten six lengths by Zero Ten.
That form was done little harm when the winner went close at Tramore on Saturday and he’s slightly better off at the weights with runner-up Ciel D’afrique so may be able to turn the tables on that rival to come out on top now.
7:45 Roscommon – Sean Cleary Memorial Handicap (4yo+ 45-70) 1m4f
MR COLDSTONE doesn’t have many miles on the clock as a flat performer and the Tamayuz gelding is given another chance to strike in this sphere.
Willie Mullins’ charge won over hurdles at Tramore on New Years’ Day on his first start for this yard and kept a decent level of company thereafter before being turned out in a competitive handicap at Galway last month where he was sent off favourite.
He could only finish seventh on that occasion however, not helped by a slow start and not in an ideal position at a result; but he arguably ran better than the bare result and he can do better here if breaking on terms.
