Sam Twiston-Davies bids for Wednesday Leicester Treble

Jockey Sam Twiston-Davies is currently in fine form, and he bids to continue the run with a trio of rides on Wednesday’s Leicester card – with the combination making up into a 285/1 treble. We have produced our verdict on his mount’s chances.

Muckamore – (2.20, Best Ticket Deals Online @ leicesterracecourse.co.uk Novices’ Handicap Chase)

The first of the Sam Twiston-Davies trio comes in this extended 2m6f novices’ handicap chase, where he partners up with the 8yo MUCKAMORE.

This Sholokhov gelding runs in the Noel Fehily Racing Syndicate silks and having chased home the likes of Imperial Alcazar and Southfield Harvest over hurdles earlier in his career he got off the mark in this sphere at Wetherby in November, ultimately running out a comfortable 18l winner.

Muckamore hasn’t added to that tally the last twice, yet he did little wrong at Doncaster last time out just seeming to find 3m2f too demanding a stamina test.

Dropping back to this trip will suit on that evidence, whilst the addition of cheekpieces could also unlock improvement, so whilst he probably wouldn’t be first choice here he looks dangerous to dismiss.

Verdict: First-time headgear interesting and will appreciate dropping back to this trip, but Sam Barton could prove a tough rival at this level.

Guy – (3.20, Leicester Racecourse Ideal Conference Venue Handicap Chase)

Sam and Nigel Twiston-Davies teamed up to land the competitive Grade 3 Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, and that duo team up with GUY in Leicester’s feature 2m4f handicap chase.

This 7yo Getaway gelding bumped into Senior Citizen and Pink Legend in his first two starts this season and that duo are now rated 10lb and 8lb higher respectively.

Guy bombed out when sent off the co-favourite at Ascot last time out, but he has been given plenty of time to get over that showing and considering that the run came at 0-150 level, this huge drop to a 0-125 handicap looks a notable plus.

Verdict: In fine form prior to latest disappointing Ascot run but this represents a huge drop in class from that and it makes him the one to beat.

Emphatic Qualm – (3.50, Next Meeting @leicesterraces Thursday 17th February Handicap Hurdle)

Sam Twiston-Davies’ final ride on Leicester’s Wednesday card comes in their concluding handicap hurdle where he takes the ride on EMPHATIC QUALM.

This 7yo is yet to get off the mark in eight starts under rules but he did go close on his handicap debut at Newton Abbot off a mark of 113.

He has failed to match that level of form in four subsequent starts, however, with wind surgery failing to bring about the requisite improvement when only 7th on seasonal reappearance at Doncaster last month.

Sam Twiston-Davies is back aboard Emphatic Qualm today, who now runs off a career-low mark of 105, but those recent showings leave him with a little to prove and the value play appears to be to look elsewhere.

Verdict: Less exposed than most and Sam Twiston-Davies is back aboard today, but recent efforts make him a risky betting proposition.
