SATURDAY HORSE RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR SANDOWN, MUSSELBURGH, WETHERBY, LINGFIELD & KEMPTON
1:11 Lingfield – Betway Kachy Stakes (Listed Race) (All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) Cl1 (4yo+) 6f
SUMMERGHAND won twice last term which included the competitive Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood in August and David O’Meara’s charge can make a winning return to action following a break.
The Lope De Vega gelding scored by a head at the Sussex track, beating Kimifive, and he’s run better than his bare form suggests since with two in the frame efforts from his next four outings and his last run was possibly a case of going to the well once too often.
He beat only one home on that occasion behind Dakota Gold, but he’s been freshened up by four months off and making his return on the all-weather will hold no fears given he’s a dual-winner on polytrack.
Likely to get a decent pace to aim at he has the services of Adam Kirby for this outing and the pair can combine for the victory.
1:29 Musselburgh – bet365 Auld Yin Conditional Jockeys’ Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Veterans’ Chase Series Qualifier) Cl3 (10yo+ 0-125) 2m6f
ALOOMOMO was a very useful sort for Warren Greatrex in his younger days but the Tirwanako gelding lost his way for that handler although did occasionally show glimpses of his best including finishing a good runner-up to Crievehill at Sandown a couple of seasons ago.
He’s now with the shrewd Sandy Thompson and the veteran wasted little time in getting off the mark for his new yard when scoring at the second attempt at Kelso last Januaray and he subsequently found only one too good at Ayr in March behind Marown.
Having made a winning reappearance over hurdles at Kelso in November he now returns to the larger obstacles from a very winnable rating given his historic performances as a 140 rated chaser in his prime and with a good record fresh he could be worth chancing to follow up his win last time out following a three months’ break.
1:50 Sandown – Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m4f
SHAN BLUE is unbeaten in three starts over fences, looking a chaser to keep on the right side of when blitzing opposition with a stellar round of jumping to win the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and Dan Skelton’s charge can strike again.
The Shantou gelding proved a very smart hurdler, winning at Southwell before locking horns with the likes of Shishkin and Envoi Allen in subsequent runs; but he’s taken his form to new heights since tackling fences and the former winning-pointer could prove a tough nut to crack again.
He took the marked rise in class in his stride when jumping his rivals ragged at Kempton latest and that sure-footedness will be a huge asset around here despite the drop back in trip which is unlikely to hold any fears.
He won on heavy ground over hurdles so conditions ought not to present a worry and likely to have further improvement to come as a chaser he can extend his unbeaten record to four.
2:30 Wetherby – William Hill Cleeve Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m
ON THE BLIND SIDE has thrived back over timber this campaign following a spell chasing and Nicky Henderson’s charge can follow up his win at Market Rasen last month by taking this Grade Two prize.
A three-mile Listed hurdle winner on his reappearance at Cheltenham back in November he lost little caste in successive runner-up defeats which include behind Mcfabulous in the rearranged Relkeel Hurdle at Kempton where he was only beaten two lengths despite the test probably being on the sharp side for him.
The Stowaway gelding was made to scrap for his latest success by a resurgent Lil Rockerfeller when last seen, eventually scoring by a hard-fought half-length with the pair pulling clear of the reast of the field.
A third start in as many weeks is a slight worry and there’s a concern this may just come too soon; but if he’s none the worse for recent exertions then his claims look obvious and he can strike again if at his best.
2:40 Musselburgh – bet365 Scottish Champion Chase (Handicap Chase) (For The Bowes-Lyon Trophy) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-140) 2m
RETURN TICKET has to give weight away but Rebecca Menzies’ charge might be worth chancing to come out on top again at this venue where the Getaway gelding is 2-2 over course and distance.
A dual-winner over hurdles he took some time to get off the mark over the larger obstacles but did so at Sedgefield last October before running with credit behind Fusil Raffles in a better contest at Cheltenham where he finished third.
He got back to winning ways following a wind operation when running out a comfortable six lengths’ victor over Gaelik Coast over this course and distance and the longer trip here last time possibly just stretched his stamina when fading into fourth behind Romain De Senam.
Back at two miles for this contest he should find the test more suitable and he’s reunited with champion jockey Brian Hughes who has a good record on the Menzies runner so the pair could combine to go close in this contest.
2:55 Sandown – Virgin Bet Warriors Handicap Chase Cl3 (5yo+ 0-140) 2m4f
Progressive EVANDER ran better than the bare result when meeting with defeat behind Capeland at Wincanton last month, making a bad error and stumbling at a crucial point in the race before rallying well to take second and Oliver Greenall’s charge might be capable of making a return to winning ways.
The Arcadio gelding was a dual-winner over hurdles last term in testing ground, scoring both at Sedgefield and he’s improved with every run over the larger obstacles posting an impressive success at the third attempt when going in at Doncaster in December.
He made all that day, jumping well to score by 14 lengths and he lost no caste in defeat latest so could well go one better here having been raised just 1lb in the weights while the application of a tongue-tie could sharpen him up.
4:55 Kempton – Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-60) 1m
Cieran Fallon has got a real tune out of FAST EMMA the last twice and the pair can combine for a hat-trick of wins.
Michael Bell’s Fast Company filly had shown steadily progressive form with each run prior to opening her account under this rider at Lingfield in January, scoring by a head from Nurse Dee and that form has been franked since.
She then bettered that performance over a furlong shorter at Southwell latest where she beat Smokey Malone by one length, readily and her progress might not have halted yet with just a 4lbs rise in the weights to contend with here.
Back at one mile returning to polytrack she can continue her upward curve and no surprise if she collects her three-timer here.
