Saturday live TV tips – ITV Racing best bets at Lingfield and Doncaster
Saturday ITV Racing tips 30 January
We pick out our Saturday live TV tips for the day’s ITV Racing action from Lingfield and Doncaster.
The ITV Racing cameras are back in action on Saturday and while we’ve lost Cheltenham Trials Day from the agenda there is still plenty to look forward to with the best of the action from Doncaster over the sticks and Lingfield on the all-weather.
There is Grade Two action on the card at Doncaster with the Lightning Novices’ Chase joined on a quality racecard by further Grade Two racing with both the Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle and River Don Novices’ Hurdle as well as the Sky Bet Handicap Chase.
Meanwhile there is also competitive handicap action on the Lingfield polytrack and Ed Chamberlain and the team will have all their usual expert racing tips, insights and post race analysis on every live TV race. We’ve looked through the day’s seven-race schedule to pick out our Saturday live TV tips at both cards.
SATURDAY LIVE TV TIPS – ITV RACING BEST BETS AT LINGFIELD & DONCASTER
1:30 Doncaster – Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Lightning Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m½f
SHISHKIN is impossible to oppose in this Grade Two contest which has been a favoured target of Nicky Henderson in past years and the Sholokhov gelding can maintain his perfect record over fences.
A fall on his hurdles debut aside back in December 2019 he’s been faultless since and took the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March prior to switching this term to chasing where he’s won both starts with the minimum of fuss.
He was barely extended when bolting up in the Grade Two Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton over the Christmas period, scoring by an easy 13 lengths and this looks no more tough an assignment as he bids for a third chase success.
Timeform’s highest raced novice chaser he should prove a very tough nut to crack and it would be a shock if he were to come up short here.
2:05 Doncaster – Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (Nhmops Bonus Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m½f
MARIE’S ROCK ran poorly on her reappearance behind reopposing stablemate Floressa at Newbury back in November but Nicky Henderson’s charge can atone for that disappointment and regain the winning thread.
The Milan mare had won her three previous starts in bumpers and over hurdles, impressively running out an eight lengths’ winner over Midnight’s Gift in soft ground in a Listed contest at Taunton last December.
She beat only two home in the Gerry Fielden Hurdle on her reappearance, not helping her cause by pulling hard early; but plenty also went wrong for her as she stumbled badly mid-race and made another error three hurdles from home before being badly hampered and she can be forgiven that effort.
Likely to be sharper now she has a tongue-tie and hood combination now applied and she can be given another chance despite Nico be Boinville siding with the other Seven Barrows runner.
2:20 Lingfield – Play 4 To Win At Betway Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 6f
POWER OVER ME is thriving at present since joining Robyn Brisland and the Ivawood gelding can continue his winning spree having won all three starts since joining this yard.
Two of those successes have come over course and distance, latterly under a penalty here just six days ago where he was good value for his win over Garth Rockett.
He has another 2lbs rise in the weights to contend with here but the manner of that latest victory suggested he was still ahead of the handicapper and a further penalty might not stop him from going in again so he’s taken to continue his good run of form and maintain his perfect record for this handler.
2:40 Doncaster – Albert Bartlett River Don Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m½f
Placed between the flags in Ireland prior to joining Rebecca Curtis PATS FANCY showed some fair form in bumpers before stepping up his game switched to hurdling and the Oscar gelding can get back to winning ways here.
A heavy ground winner over 2m 4f at Ffos Las on his hurdles bow where he beat Gladiateur Allen, he stepped up to this trip to chase home Make Good in the Bristol Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in December where he was beaten seven lengths.
He finished ahead of a couple of these however on that occasion and the form of his earlier win has been boosted since so there could be a fair bit more to come from him. Assuming he can build on that latest performance then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him firmly in the mix in this contest and he can get back on the scoresheet.
2:55 Lingfield – Betway Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-95) 1m4f
HYDROPLANE could be worth chancing to get back to winning ways from the foot of the weights and Ian Williams’ charge gets weight from his four rivals.
The Pour Moi gelding won three times for Sir Mark Prescott prior to joining this yard for a hurdles campaign and he struck in that sphere at Market Rasen in December prior to posting a good third at Doncaster next time although the race possibly came too soon.
Runner-up off 79 on his last start on the level at Epsom he’s 1lb lower here returning to the flat and switching back to the all-weather he could have a big say for his in-form yard.
3:15 Doncaster – Sky Bet Handicap Chase (Listed Race) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m
Cap Du Nord’s form looks really strong but it might be worth siding with CANELO who chased home that rival at Newbury in November before regaining the winning thread latest in the recent Rowland Meyrick Chase.
Alan King’s Mahler gelding has won three of his last five over fences and he was only beaten around four lengths by Christian Williams’ rival in the Sir Peter O’sullevan Memorial Chase on his penultimate start where he was possibly just given too much to do.
His latest win saw him strike over three miles on just his second try at the distance, running on well to get up close home and while he’s 6lbs higher in the weights for this latest run he meets Cap Du Nord on 4lbs better terms from their Newbury clash.
Still unexposed over this three miles he could have more to offer and with conditions no problem he ought to be in the mix in this competitive handicap contest.
3:30 Lingfield – Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-95) 1m
GOLDEN FORCE got back on the winning trail when successful over this trip at Wolverhampton at Christmas and the Lethal Force gelding can follow up.
Charlie Fellowes’ charge had scored back-to-back wins during the summer, scoring at Wolverhampton and York before going off the boil somewhat; but he bounced back with a near-miss back at Wolverhampton at the beginning of December prior to that latest success.
He had Elmejor a half-length behind, running on well late to get up close home and only 2lbs higher here he should continue to remain competitive.
