SATURDAY RACING BEST BETS – UK HORSE RACING TIPS FOR THE DAY’S FIXTURES
1:55 Ayr – Virgin Bet Doonside Cup Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f
The admirable EUCHEN GLEN can get back on track returned to a track which he loves and Jim Goldie’s charge ought to make his presence felt.
The Authorized gelding has shown few signs of decline despite being an eight-year old, winning twice this season in Group Three and Listed company, the latest of which came in the Gala Stakes at Sandown in July and he almost followed up in the Glorious Stakes at Glorious Goodwood next time.
He’s not been at his best in his last couple of starts although his run at Haydock possibly came too soon following Goodwood and faced a stiff task in the Ebor Handicap when last seen where he was likely hindered by his mark while a change to more forceful tactics didn’t work.
This assignment sees him back in Listed company and while he has to give weight all round he could prove up to the task following four weeks off and back at a venue where he’s won four times from six visits, while any rain around won’t be an issue and with a strong pace to take a lead off he can make his presence felt.
2:15 Newbury – Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f
This looks a solid contest on paper and KHAADEM is again taken having got back on the winning trail with an impressive victory at Doncaster ten days ago and the Dark Angel entire can follow up here.
Charlie Hills’ charge was a winner here a couple of seasons ago prior to his impressive win in the 2019 Stewards’ Cup which marked him as a potential Group horse. Things didn’t go to plan thereafter and his form this term had been hit or miss until the application of blinkers saw an improved effort at Newmarket last month.
He tanked through most of that race before fading late which prompted the decision to drop him to five furlongs and that move paid dividends with an impressive win last time out in Listed company. Back up in class here he could have more to offer over the bare minimum in the headgear and while he faces some competition for the lead he is capable of another big run.
Assuming this third run in three weeks doesn’t prove a negative then he ought to make his presence felt again now he’s got his head back in front.
3:15 Newmarket – Close Brothers Cesarewitch Trial Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 2m2f
MANCINI hasn’t won for more than a year but a repeat of his latest run at Chester would give the Nathaniel gelding every chance of a return to winning ways.
Ian Williams’ charge struck his last success at Sandown last July off a mark of 91 but he’s been largely out of sorts this term until latest where he was beaten less than one length behind Solent Gateway.
He’s been raised 2lbs for that last effort but he’s still below his last winning mark and this extra distance could suit so there’d be no surprise to see him very competitive here if he can back up that last run.
3:50 Newmarket – Close Brothers Fillies’ Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m2f
JEWEL IN MY CROWN was showing progressive form earlier in the campaign, winning three times and the Mukhadram filly wasn’t seen to best effect in a stronger contest at York last month although she ran well enough in defeat to finish fifth in that contest behind The Flying Ginger.
That form took a boost when the runner-up went one better at Doncaster last weekend and Rae Guest’s charge could bounce back with a better effort returning to a more suitable grade off the same mark.
She’ll likely get more of a pace to aim at this time around and and still with she could get back on track here.
4:00 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 6f
GUBBASS has shown up well this term, winning his first two starts which include the Weatherbys Super Sprint here in July and the Mehmas colt has lost little in defeat in two starts since.
Richard Hannon’s charge finished third in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, only beaten a half-length behind Asymmetrick and he took in a Group One on France when last seen finishing fifth to Perfect Power in the Prix Morny.
Those pieces of form are the strongest on offer amongst this field and he remains open to plenty of improvement so likely will make his presence felt again and he can get back to winning ways here.
4:10 Catterick – Vickers.Bet Bet £10 Get £20 Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 1m6f
MOLINARI arrives here on a hat-trick of wins having struck in recent outings at Carlisle and Hamilton and Martin Todhunter’s charge can oblige punters by landing the three-timer.
The latest of those victories saw the Mastercraftsman gelding register a near two-lengths’ victory over Innse Gall, scoring readily and that form has largely held up given the third and fourth horses home both improved their respective finishing positions next time.
A 4lbs rise for that last success does apply a little more pressure but the manner of that last success hinted that there may be more still in the locker and he can progress again to pick up the hat-trick.
4:15 Ayr – Virgin Bet Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 1m
DANCE FEVER can get back to winning ways here having not been seen to best effect at Goodwood last time, unsuited by how the race developed and on his earlier runs Clive Cox’s charge ought to go close.
The lightly-raced Sir Prancealot gelding as an impressive winner at Leicester back in July when beating Golden Force by one length under this rider after which he finished a good third in the International Stakes behind Danyah where he raced under a penalty.
Runner-up at Doncaster two runs ago behind Motawaajed he finished fourth when last seen, not helped by a slow pace and the race turning into a sprint; he’s likely to get a stronger pace here though and he ought to get involved at the business end from a mark that remains workable.
6:00 Wolverhampton – Cazoo Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-75) 6f
TWILIGHT SECRET has yet to get off the mark in four starts but James Tate’s charge has hit the crossbar on three of those occasions and the Twilight Son colt can make the breakthrough here.
The latest of those near misses came at Newcastle earlier in the month where he was just denied by a neck behind Dusky Lord and his debut run where he finished three lengths behind Dragon Symbol looks a lot better now.
He was only run down late last time and now steps into a handicap where a mark of 75 could underestimate him with Stefano Cherchi’s 3lbs claim a big positive as he returns to six furlongs for this latest run.
