Brian Healy takes a look through all of Saturday televised races from Cheltenham and Lingfield and provides readers with his selections.

Following the loss of Cheltenham’s scheduled Friday racecard for day one of the November Meeting, the ITV Racing camera stick around in the hope that the second day gets the green light for racing to go ahead.

If it does, the team will have four races live from the day’s main fixture, as well as a pair of Listed races from the Lingfield all-weather. The feature race of the day is the BetVictor Gold Cup Handicap chase which gets underway from 2.25pm.

WEST APPROACH (4/1 BetVictor) could prove the answer to a tricky puzzle despite the small field, and Colin Tizzard’s charge can end his losing streak here.

The Westerner gelding won two of his first three outings over fences during the 2017/18 season, but things haven’t been straightforward since for the Tizzard horse whose form has been somewhat patchy although he did twice find only Paisley Park too strong last term over hurdles, and he rounded off last campaign with a creditable sixth in the Bet365 Gold Cup.

He didn’t do a lot wrong on his reappearance at this venue last moth, finding only The Conditional too strong by two lengths; but he should strip much fitter now with that run under his belt, and a subsequent 2lbs rise is workable so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him take a forward step now.

Conditions underfoot are unlikely to present much of an issue and he ought to go close here.

A chance is taken on SPRINGTOWN LAKE (12/1 BetVictor) to progress on the back of his reappearance effort at Ascot earlier in the month, and Philip Hobbs’ charge can get back to winning ways over fences where he remains relatively unexposed.

A heavy-ground hurdles winner during the 2017/18 season, he made a winning reappearance in soft ground at Sandown last November, and he largely acquitted himself well in defeat in the wake of that run although he possibly was amiss when pulled up at Aintree inm April on better ground which was perhaps against him.

He went well for a long way on his reappearance, shaping as if better for the run behind Vinndication, and he could do better with that run under his belt. Eased 1lb in the weights and carrying a relative feather-weight in these conditions could prove an advantage and he can post a big effort under the champion jockey Richard Johnson.

Lord North (near) bolts up under Frankie Dettori in the Cambridgeshire.

2:45 Lingfield – Betway Churchill Stakes (Listed Race) (Fast Track Qualifier) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f

LORD NORTH (4/6 BetVictor) is likely to take plenty of beating here, and the Cambridgeshire winner can add further success to his record here.

John Gosden’s Dubawi gelding followed up his Newmarket win with an excellent runner-up effort behind Escobar at Ascot in the Balmoral Handicap, beaten two lengths; and he quickly resumed the winning trend when beating Pablo Escobar in the Listed Jane Seymour Stakes where he was trying this longer trip for the first time.

He saw out the trip really well on that occasion, and he could have more to offer back on the all-weather where he has won already on tapeta at Newcastle.

With 10lbs to spare on official rating, he well prove different class to this field of rivals where he may well be a Group performer contesting at a lower level, and he is likely to prove a tough nut to crack here.

3:00 Cheltenham – Spinal Injuries Association Big Buck’s Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m

THE BUTCHER SAID (7/1 BetVictor) found only Ramses De Teillee too good on his return from four months off the track over course and distance last month, but Olly Murphy’s charge could show improvement for that run and go one better here stepping into the handicap ranks.

The Robin Des Champs gelding remains relatively lightly raced, but he found a jolt of improvement stepped up in trip to reel off a four-timer of wins over the summer on good ground; but he showed more testing ground to be no problem latest, travelling well turning in but unable to sustain his effort to the line up the punishing Cheltenham hill.

It might be that he was just needing the run, and he ought to strip fitter now for that outing so could well progress; while an opening mark of 136 on his handicap debut looks workable so he remains capable of better and could go close here.

3:15 Lingfield – Betway Golden Rose Stakes (Listed Race) (Fast Track Qualifier) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f

ABOVE THE REST (7/1 BetVictor) has run well the last twice back on the all-weather, and David Barron’s charge could get back to winning ways for the first time since landing the Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton back in March this year.

The Exceed and Excel gelding was arguably unlucky not to finish closer than he did over seven furlongs at this venue latest, forced wide into the stakes before running on well late.

The drop back to six furlongs is unlikely to present much of an issue, and the hold-up performer should get plenty of pace to aim at in this contest. While strictly at the weights he has a little bit to find with the reopposing Gifted Master from their run here last time out, he nevertheless ought to remain competitive and no surprise to see him going close again.

3:30 Cheltenham – BetVictor Intermediate Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (3yo+ 0-140) 2m5f

LEGENDS GOLD (11/2, BetVictor) arrives here in search of a four-timer, and Rebecca Curtis’ charge looks worth siding with to get the job done having already proven herself capable of handling testing ground as she did when scoring at Bangor in October to land the middle-leg of her trio of wins.

The Gold Well mare was returning from six months off the track with that success, backing up her earlier Stratford success and she landed her three-timer when beating Ziggy Rose by six lengths at Ludlow latest.

She made all the running that day, kicked clear and winning readily, and a subsequent 2lbs rise in the weights leaves her with scope to do better; so with ability to handle the conditions already proven she could be worth sticking with to follow up again, and no surprise to see her posting another big effort here.
