Paul Townend’s 6 Listowel Rides Assessed

Leading jockey Paul Townend has enjoyed a terrific week at Listowel so far, with his form figures reading an incredible 711121. He bids to continue this incredible run of form with six rides on the card this Wednesday – including his outside chance in the feature Kerry National! Here at Racing Tips, we have delved deeper into the chances of all six rides, look below for our thoughts on all runners.

GORDON DAI DAI – (2:10pm Listowel)

Paul Townend’s first ride on the card comes aboard GORDON DAI DAI in the 2m maiden hurdle. This five-year-old ran out a surprise 20/1 winner of a Galway bumper on debut last October, and he followed that effort with a 50/1 second at the Punchestown Festival.

He looks like an exciting recruit to hurdling and therefore warrants serious respect here.

FAROUT – (2:45pm Listowel)

Paul Townend teams up with Willie Mullins for the ride on FAROUT, who at odds-on is the horse that bookmakers feel presents Paul Townend with his best chance of success on the Wednesday card.

Farout has won two of his three starts since joining current connections, accounting for useful stablemate Tax For Max (conceded seven pounds) at Galway last time. He is progressive and will appreciate forecast ground conditions, so holds strong claims.

OSCER ROMERO – (3:20pm Listowel)

Philip Rothwell and Paul Townend have enjoyed success when teaming up down the years, and the duo once again looks dangerous here with the upwardly mobile OSCER ROMERO.

This son of Court Cave has improved significantly in recent months, winning three of his last four starts. He improved for the step up in distance when scoring at Ballinrobe last time, and although up nine pounds, he looks a serious player in his current vein of form.

ROBINNIA – (3:55pm Listowel)

Running in the Closutton Racing Club silks, ROBINNIA looked a chaser to follow when running out a ten-length winner at Tramore in June.

She was in the process of running another big race before tipping up at the final fence when a close-up fourth at Galway last time, and proving she is none the worse for that tumble, looks set for a big run this afternoon – for all that she faces a smart rival in the De Bromhead-trained Magic Daze.

ANNAMIX – (4:25pm Listowel)

Paul Townend gained a memorable success in last year’s Kerry National when partnering Cabaret Queen to victory, and he bids to supplement that with ANNAMIX in 2021.

The eight-year-old was a beaten favourite at Galway when last seen, but he had some smart form to his name last season behind the likes of Chacun Pour Soi and Easy Game, which would suggest that he could be well-handicapped here off a mark of 150 – particularly now stepping up to 3m for the first time.

PORT STANLEY – (5:00pm Listowel)

PORT STANLEY is Paul Townend’s final ride on the Listowel card. Jessica Harrington’s seven-year-old is without a win since last February, but he has gone close on a number of occasions.

He occupied third-place in a well-above-average handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival when last seen, and returns from a break dropped back into a beginners’ chase.
