Sunday Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets at Kempton, Wetherby and Wolverhampton

Sunday Horse Racing Tips

There were a few Boxing Day shocks and some classy performances to savour on Saturday’s racing programme and there’s further top-class and competitive horse racing fare on Saturday where three more meetings head to post across the UK including the second day of the Kempton Christmas Festival.

We might have lost Chepstow’s Welsh Grand National meeting, but also taking place on Saturday is a second day of racing at Wetherby where the Castleford Chase is the feature at the Yorkshire track; while on the all-weather there is a fixture at Wolverhampton on their tapeta surface to round off another cracking afternoon.

We’ve looked through each of the day’s racecards around the country and we’ve picked out our Saturday racing best bets and tips for the day

Sunday Horse Racing Tips – WETHERBY, KEMPTON & WOLVERHAMPTON

1:55 Kempton – Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 3m½f

The prospect of rain could turn the conditions more testing than on Boxing Day and MOLLY OLLYS WISHES will be suited by any easing of the ground where Dan Skelton’s charge can follow up her latest success.

The Black Sam Bellamy mare was a soft ground winner at Warwick in January prior to finding only one too good at Doncaster on her final start of the season behind It’s Probably Me.

Possibly in need of her return at Carlisle she likely found the good ground too quick for her at Wincanton last month, but she got back on the mark faced again with more testing conditions at Hereford latest where she was value for more than the official winning margin of two lengths over Valse Au Taillons.

A 6lbs rise demands more from her as she goes up in class here, but the longer trip could eke out another jolt of progress and she can give another good account.

2:10 Wetherby – William Hill Castleford Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m7f

FIRST FLOW has developed into a very smart chaser who comes here on the back of a four-timer having rounded off last term with a hat-trick in heavy ground before making a winning reappearance at Ascot in November where Kim Bailey’s charge ran out a neck winner from Amoola Gold.

The Primary gelding is well served by testing ground and he’s yet to finish out of the first three over fences. He boasts a very good record at this trip also and there could be better still to come despite a 6lbs rise in the weights for that last-time win.

He gets 5lbs from top-weight Nuts Well who arrives in search of a hat-trick having won both starts this term, but that one could prove vulnerable trying to give the weight over this shorter trip and Kim Bailey’s bold-jumping front runner can take advantage of the weight concession to enhance his winning streak.

2:25 Wolverhampton – Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football EBF Novice Stakes Cl5 (2yo) 6f

WARRIOR BRAVE boasts the highest rating in this field of those who have qualified for a mark and Michael Appleby’s charge can follow up his breakthrough win at this venue late last month.

The Twilight Son gelding showed glimpses of ability in three starts on turf in Ireland for Adrian Fogarty, but dropped to the minimum trip on his return from a break and stable debut here in November he ran out a three lengths’ victor over Amor de Mi Vida, scoring readily.

A return to this longer trip is unlikely to present an issue and the manner of his win last time hinted at better still to come so with further improvement anticipated he can follow up in this contest for his yard which has been in decent form in recent weeks.

2:45 Wetherby – William Hill Acca Freedom Mares’ Handicap Chase (Challenger Mares’ Chase Series Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 3m

NO NO JULIET could be worth chancing to get back on the scoresheet and Fergal O’Brien’s charge ought to go close.

The Scorpion mare handles soft ground well and was a winner at Southwell last December over fences when first-time cheekpieces helped deliver an eight lengths’ victory over Loveherandleaveher when trained by Oliver Sherwood.

She rounded off her time with that yard with successive placed efforts in the wake of that win, and having since joined this yard she has run better than her bare results suggest in two starts for the O’Brien camp and she was only beaten four lengths latest at Hereford behind an improver.

Off the same mark she could continue to give a good account and with her good claimer’s allowance another plus she can make her presence felt.

3:40 Kempton – Watch Racing Free Online At Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-140) 2m

STERNRUBIN was in the process of running a big race on his return from a long absence at Cheltenham in October, falling two out when challenging and if none the worse for that mishap Philip Hobbs’ charge could get back on track.

The Authorized gelding has proven himself a useful sort in all disciplines, winning four times over hurdles which include a Grade Three and also twice on the level and over fences. The last of those wins came at Ludlow over the larger obstacles more than two years ago and he spent the latter half of the 2018/19 season back over hurdles where he finished in the frame three times and crossed the line in a good sixth in that season’s County Hurdle during the Cheltenham Festival.

He’s been given time to recover from that fall on his reappearance and he’s in excellent hands with a top yard and Richard Johnson back in the plate so a big performance could well happen here having been competitive in the past from this mark.

4:10 Wolverhampton – Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap Cl6 (3yo+ 0-65) 1m6f

LLEYTON was a fair sort in Ireland but since joining Micky Hammond he has run well on both his starts at this venue which includes over this trip on his first start for his new handler and the Kalanisi gelding can continue to thrive.

He won on that occasion, landing odds of 50/1 in beating Running Cloud and he showed the performance to be no fluke latest when stepped back up to two miles where only Fleur Irlandaise proved too strong by a neck.

Not seen to best effect there having been held up off a steady pace and maybe given too much to do behind a well-handicapped rival he’s only 2lbs higher in the ratings for this latest run which sees him drop back to his last winning distance and he can get back to winning ways here.
