SUNDAY IRISH RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT DOWNPATRICK & GOWRAN PARK
1:50 Downpatrick – Toals Bookmakers Opportunity Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m5½f
FAKIR D’ALENE is a lightly raced sort who has finished runner-up in two of his three starts over hurdles and the Cokoriko gelding can get off the mark now.
Sneezy Foster’s charge most recently found only Shanavoun Lady too strong by four lengths over three miles at Kilbeggan but could do better back down in trip with that piece of form arguably setting the standard in this contest.
A repeat of that effort may be good enough here to see him off the mark and it would be no surprise to see him going close with Jordan Gainford able to take a handy 4lbs off his back.
2:30 Gowran Park – Golf At Gowran Park Handicap (3yo 45-75) 7f
ANNA STRADA has yet to get off the mark but the Havana Gold filly has ruin some good races in defeat and was beaten less than one length latest into third at Navan last month behind White Lavender.
That form looks fair with those who finished around her all running well since although there’s no wins to speak of; but there could be more to come from her on just her third handicap start as she goes back up in trip from a mark that is unlikely to be beyond her.
Jessica Harrington’s charge can improve and there’d be little shock in seeing her getting involved here.
2:50 Downpatrick – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m3f
SHOPPING AROUND bounced back to winning form when posting a career-best effort over this course last month, running out a narrow winner over Highstreet Roller and Jim Dreaper’s charge can follow up here.
The Doyen mare had won back-to-back hurdles races early last year at Clonmel prior to tackling fences over the winter where she cut little ice although she did manage to finish runner-up at Naas in December.
She was returning from a break when posting that return to winning ways and his subsequent 7lbs rise for that victory has been offset by the presence of a good 7lbs claimer in the saddle. She appeared to win with something to spare last time and a repeat of that outing could be good enough here to see her win again.
3:00 Gowran Park – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Handicap (3yo+) 7f
MISS MOLLY T got off the mark at Leopardstown back in October having largely been running well in defeat previously and Gerard Keane’s charge can get back on the scoresheet having been only narrowly denied on her reappearance from almost six months off back in April behind Independent Missy at Navan.
The Camacho filly was beaten only a half-length on that occasion having dropped to six furlongs; but her previous win had come over this trip when seeing off Fictitious Lady having made all and that runner-up has filled the frame in three of her four subsequent starts.
The selection should strip fitter for her return and the winner went close at Fairyhouse on Friday to boost that recent form along with the fourth who has since won. She can bounce back to winning form here returned to seven furlongs and she ought to be involved at the business end here.
