Sunday’s 14,239/1 Lucky 15 – Our UK Racing Best Bets On August 14

Horse Racing Tips on Sunday, August 14

There are three meetings spread across Britain on Sunday, August 14th with the action coming from Chelmsford, Pontefract and Southwell. Our expert tipster has produced their best bets across the cards, which make up our advised Sunday Lucky 15.

Lord Cherry (1.25 Chelmsford) 10/1

Chelmsford’s opening Follow @chelmsfordcrc On Twitter Handicap can go to LORD CHERRY.

Stuart Williams’ gelding comes into today’s contest a seven-race maiden, but he’s run well in defeat in all-weather handicaps recently, following a Kempton second with a fourth at this track.

Both of those outings came over 7f, with Lord Cherry staying on both times shaping as though he’d benefit from stepping up to a mile, which he does here.

He’s now slipped to a mark of 52, which is surely workable, and Callum Shepherd takes over in the saddle. Stall 4 looks a good berth for Lord Cherry and it would be a surprise if he didn’t come good for these connections sooner rather than later.

Thunderhill (2.08 Southwell) 8/1

Southwell’s Sunday card kicks off with the Newark Advertiser Handicap, a race which might just provide THUNDERHILL a good chance to break his maiden tag at the seventh attempt.

This gelding had excuses when only seventh at Ayr on penultimate run (lost a shoe) and he finished a close fourth on both his previous handicap starts, most recently at Doncaster just over a fortnight ago.

That Doncaster run looks worth upgrading as Thunderhill was squeezed out leaving the stalls and caught the eye staying on quite strongly in the final furlong.

On that showing, stepping up to a mile is only going to be to Thunderhill’s benefit, and being a half-brother to a Tapeta winner, this surface is bred to suit him.

Sergeant Tibbs (3.53 Southwell) 7/1

Although seemingly unfancied at odds of 20/1, SERGEANT TIBBS defied his price to make a winning seasonal reappearance at Newbury in May, and he is taken to follow-up in the XYZ Rail Partnering With Southwell Racecourse Handicap at Southwell on Sunday.

Robyn Brisland’s charge has some classy backform to his name which includes a 200/1 second (beaten under 2l) to the now 105-rated Highland Avenue, the now 103-rated Oo De Lally just under a length behind in third.

Sergeant Tibbs was seemingly unfancied for his aforementioned seasonal reappearance at Newbury last time, but he flew home to get up in the shadows of the post.

The handicapper has only put Sergeant Tibbs up 3lb for that showing and given his form mentioned a mark of 80 looks well within his reach. The booking of Cieren Fallon looks a notable one, so Sergeant Tibbs is backed to land Southwell’s Sunday feature.

Ickytoo (4.55 Chelmsford) 10/1

Chelmsford’s Sunday card concludes with the Jurassic Earth Presented By Bigfoot Events Classified Stakes, where ICKYTOO can be backed with confidence to get her head in front for the first time.

Jonathan Portman’s filly had finished no closer than 12l off the leaders in her first four starts, but she was much improved when fifth on her handicap debut at Lingfield last time out.

Ickytoo challenged wide there and the penny didn’t really drop until the final furlong, but Ickytoo hit the line looking full of running and on that evidence tackling 1m2f will suit her.

Ickytoo has a featherweight to carry here when factoring in Rhys Clutterbuck’s claim and this track should suit better than Lingfield. Plenty of these runners have questions to answer and therefore it might pay to chance Ickytoo, who has less miles on the clock than most of these.
