Kilaro Boy sits prominently in the betting here, having won and finished second on his two outings this term. Henry Oliver’s ten-year-old is respected, but I’m not sure the softening ground does him any favours.

Carole’s Destrier proved twice last season that he was capable of winning big handicaps at this stage of his career and Neil Mulholland’s charge has run well fresh on a number of occasions during his career. He may have his work cut out giving almost a stone to ON TOUR, and Evan William’s eleven-year-old has shown a real liking for Aintree in recent seasons.

On Tour won here at Aintree on the first outing of his season in November 2017 and ran a blinder to follow Thomas Patrick home in a Grade Three Handicap at the Grand National Festival at the end of that season.

Although he failed to produce his best in five starts last season, On Tour lost out by just a neck to Vieux Lion Rouge on his reappearance and remains some 10 pounds short of the rating he started with last season. Both of his excellent efforts here at Aintree came on soft ground and he ran very well on juicy turf on his reappearance. He’s definitely the one to beat.
