Three Outsiders To Look Out For On Saturday

There’s some cracking racing away from the ITV action on Saturday. We’ve highlighted three outsiders that we feel are overpriced in the betting ↓

Yorkshire Lady (4:10 Sandown) 12/1

Jockey Joanna Mason on Yorkshire Lady before a race at York Racecourse.

This is an open race and it feels like the bookies may have slipped up by pricing YORKSHIRE LADY as big as 12/1. Trainers Michael & David Easterby have only ever sent one runner to Sandown before – Yorkshire Lady who was a 15/2 winner last year, and they have an excellent chance of that same runner winning again here on Saturday.

This may be her first run for 244 days, but she’s run well fresh in the past and signed off last season in superb form. After two wins (including the win here in August), she went to France and finished fifth in a Listed contest at Saint- Cloud. The form of that race received a timely boost when second-placed My Astra finished runner-up in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes last weekend.

Another huge positive is the jockey booking. Joanna Mason has had five rides at Sandown so far in her career, winning two and finishing second in another. She’s also been on board Yorkshire Lady for three of her four wins, including the most recent two. The fact she has been booked again for the ride suggests connections are expecting a big run and she looks overpriced to land this.

Titan Rock (4:25 Haydock) 15/2

Titan Rock ridden by jockey Jason Hart wins the Download The Gribbens Taxi App Now Handicap during the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup at Ayr Racecourse, Ayr. Picture date: Saturday September 18, 2021.

It’s difficult to see why there’s such a price difference between Boardman, Young Fire and TITAN ROCK. Of the trio, it’s the one with the biggest odds (at time of writing) that we want to side with.

Having won over 7f on his final appearance of last season, he returned with an admirable effort at York, finishing a close fourth behind the winner Lion tower. Young Fire was also making his seasonal return and finished second, but there wasn’t much between them and Titan Rock is 1lb better off at the weights this time around.

Boardman finished fifth that day, yet looks set to go off as favourite. Our selection beat him fair and square that day, despite Boardman having the benefit of a recent run under his belt. There is the same 6lb difference between them in this as there was at York, so we see no reason that form should reverse here.

That run should have blown away the cobwebs for Titan rock, and we believe that York form will be key for this race. Of the three from that race, he seems to have the most going for him and he looks excellent value in this!

Shamlaan (5:20 Sandown) 10/1

James Doyle

Finally, we head back to Sandown for their final race on the card, and it’s Kevin Philippart De Foy’s runner SHAMLAAN who caught our eye. He has been running in better races than this lately and the drop down to Class 3 should see him back in the winners enclosure.

He made an excellent start to 2022, winning both of his first two races, including a notable win at Goodwood. He comfortably beat Lovely Mana that day, who is set to line up again in this. Shamlaan was 10lb heavier than that rival at Goodwood and beat him by almost five lengths, yet he’s just 5lb heavier in this.

Shamlaan’s next run may have ended in defeat at Chester but it was still a solid performance. Only two horses beat him home that day – Live In the Dream who finished runner-up in a Listed contest last month, and Nymphadora who finished runner-up in the Prince Of Holyroodhouse Stakes at Royal Ascot (Shamlaan back in 19th). The fourth (Navello) and sixth (Resilience) have also come out and won since to further boost that form.

He may have disappointed at Royal Ascot, but he wasn’t actually far behind the winner and his Stall 1 draw didn’t help (12 of the runners who finished ahead of him were from double-figure stalls).

Top jockey James Doyle has been booked for the ride, and we think he could be one of the best bets of the day, so at the odds on offer he has to feature among our outsiders to follow on Saturday!
