Thursday horse racing tips – New Years’ Eve best bets at Warwick, Lingfield and Newcastle
Thursday horse racing tips 31 December
We’ve picked out our Thursday horse racing tips as three meetings head to post on New Years’ Eve and bring down the curtain on a torrid 2020.
It is New Years’ Eve and the curtain will fall on a torrid 2020; as perhaps one last act Uttoxeter has fallen foul of the weather leaving just three meetings to go to post where there is jumps racing from Warwick, while on the all-weather there is afternoon action at Lingfield and Newcastle with the latter finishing under the floodlights.
Some decent racing action is in prospect across the trio of fixtures where 21 races will unfold throughout the afternoon across the day’s UK meetings and we’ve looked through each of the racecards to pick out our Thursday horse racing tips and best bets.
THURSDAY HORSE RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT WARWICK, LINGFIELD & NEWCASTLE
12:50 Warwick – LPS British Stallion Studs EBF Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (Series Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m5f
HUNNY MOON won a soft-ground bumper on his debut at Stratford back in March and following a solid return in an Aintree bumper in October Fergal O’Brien’s charge found only one too good on her hurdles debut at Leicester earlier in the month.
The Flemensfirth mare was beaten four lengths on that occasion by a useful looking winner who scored under an enterprising front-running ride and while no match for the victor the selection pulled a long way clear of the third.
That experience will stand her in good stead and she can progress on teh back of that performance to go one better having proven herself in the conditions.
1:20 Warwick – Local Parking Security Handicap Chase Cl5 (4yo+ 0-100) 2m
KHAIRAGASH has found only one too good on each of his last two outings and Venetia Williams’ charge can get back on the scoresheet here.
A Ffos Las winner last May the Sinndar gelding pulled up on his return to action at Bangor before posting successive silver medal finishes, the latter coming at Bangor in heavy ground where he possibly failed to get home over the longer trip having set the pace.
He was beaten eight lengths on that occasion and the winner has done little harm to the form with a good runner-up finish since. He’s only 3lbs higher here while Charlie Deutsch takes over in the saddle and he could benefit from stronger handling having been amateur-ridden the last twice.
If deploying similar tactics dropping back to the minimum trip for this outing sparks some improvement then he could be worth sticking with to get back to winning ways.
2:00 Lingfield – Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m
FOX DUTY FREE has been rejuvenated by a switch to Ralph Beckett’s yard and the Kingman gelding arrives here on a hat-trick of wins.
A fair if temperamental sort for Andrew Balding he is subsequently 2-2 for his current yard, scoring a brace of wins over seven furlongs at this venue, latterly winning a shade readily over Total Commitment.
That form looks fair and he shapes as if this extra furlong will be no issue; while a 3lbs rise in the ratings doesn’t look unduly punishing and with the potential for better still he can land his three-timer here.
2:50 Newcastle – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Nursery Handicap Cl6 (2yo 0-65) 7f
Lightly-raced GLOBAL VISION can get off the mark at the fifth attempt having posted a creditable fourth when last seen over this course and distance and James Tate’s charge can continue to improve.
The Markaz colt had also finished third at this venue in November and he ran better than the bare result latest where he was beaten two lengths having missed the break. He looked a tricky ride also, hanging left for much of the way up the straight and unable to quite match the winner for pace.
First-time cheekpieces are deployed now which may help him produce some improvement and this mark is certainly within his scope so every chance he can go close.
2:55 Warwick – Jonjo O’Neill Racing Club Amazing Benefits £99 Handicap Chase Cl5 (4yo+ 0-105) 2m4f
JOLY MAKER is a consistent sort and the Saddler Maker gelding can get back on the up with a return to winning ways here.
A Bangor winner back in August he has made the frame in four of his next six starts including latest when finishing third behind Debden Bank, better than the bare result having been badly hampered four out when just beginning to mount his challenge.
Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was never able to fully recover from that mishap which cost him several lengths and he could be worth giving another chance having been eased 3lbs in the weights and dropping into a slightly less competitive grade so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him bouncing back here where he can go close.
3:20 Newcastle – Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-85) 7f
SEAS OF ELZAAM has found some improvement back on the all-weather, scoring over this trip at Chelmsford in September and then following up over course and distance twelve days later where he defied a penalty.
David O’Meara’s charge hasn’t been seen since and has to defy a three months’ absence, but he won a shade readily last time where a subsequent winner was further back in third. He’s only 3lbs higher here and still unexposed on an artificial surface he can continue his progression to strike again if the three months’ break hasn’t taken the edge from him.
3:35 Lingfield – Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap Cl6 (3yo+ 0-60) 6f
COMEATCHOO is holding his form quite well at present, scoring over this course and distance in November and the Camacho gelding can get back on the scoresheet here.
Subsequent fifth placed efforts at Wolverhampton and here where he ran better than the result both times have been backed up by a pair of in-the-frame finishes at this venue where he’s been beaten less than half a length each time; the latest of which saw him beaten only by Spurofthemoment over five furlongs.
Back over this additional furlong he could go one better from the same mark and if able to maintain his current good spell of form it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him firmly in the mix again.
