THURSDAY IRISH RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR LEOPARDSTOWN & TRAMORE
5:00 Leopardstown – Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden (IRE Incentive Race) (2yo) 7f
TUT TUT showed ability on her debut at Fairyhouse back in May, finding only one too good in Velocidad who went on to land a Group Two contest next time and Jessica Harrington’s charge can get off the mark at the third attempt here.
The Kodi Bear filly shaped better than the bare result when finishing in midfield in the Ballyhane Stakes at Naas earlier in the month, not helped by a slow start but running on despite having no chance of getting involved.
That further experience can only help her here and this doesn’t look as strong a contest so she looks worth forgiving that last run and given another chance to build on the promise she had shown the time before on her debut.
5:30 Leopardstown – Foxrock Maiden (3yo+) 1m
PRINCE HECTOR found only one too good on his debut at Galway last month and with that experience under his belt the Camacho gelding is expected to improve and he can get off the mark at the second attempt.
Bill McCreery’s charge was no match for easy winner Emilie Gray but he was holding the eventual third who had plenty of experience over the selection, suggesting it was a decent effort despite meeting with defeat.
He’s sure to come on for that outing and can do better this time around with improvement likely so no surprise to see him open his win account this time around.
6:45 Tramore – Flynn Hotels Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m
BRIDGE NATIVE scored her most recent victory when successful over fences at Down Royal last October, but while the Stowaway mare hasn’t added to her tally since she has been running quite well and Ciaran Murphy’s charge can make her presence felt here.
She’s been seen contesting on the flat, over hurdles and fences this term and her last hurdles start saw her turn in a decent effort at Bellewstown behind Winner Takesit All in a stronger race than this; while her latest outing came over fences where she was only five lengths’ fourth behind Abbey Magic at Galway.
Now 1lb lower back over the smaller obstacles she has the services of a 7lbs claimer for this assignment and no surprise if she were to be competitive again.
7:00 Leopardstown – Vinnie Roe Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo) 1m6f
FERNANDO VICHI had looked steadily progressive in runs prior to the Irish Derby, finishing third to Bolshoi Ballet in the Derrinstown Derby Trial and scoring in a Listed race at Leopardstown before taking in the colts’ Classic at the Curragh where he was never a factor and likely found the company too hot.
The Australia colt remains capable of better and this longer trip may bring about some improvement given how he had kept on the time before to land the Nijinsky Stakes from The Mediterranean who has since acquitted himself well in stronger company at Ascot and Longchamp.
Donnacha O’Brien has given his charge a break following his Classic exertions and he returns to action here with his sights lowered so he could be capable of bouncing back with a win.
7:45 Tramore – HOLLYWOODBETS Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-95) 2m4½f
OPTIONAL MIX is a maiden under Rules but the point-to-point winner has shown enough to suggest she can win races over hurdles where she’s finished in the frame on all three starts over the smaller obstacles, the latest of which came at Killarney last month where the Carlotamix mare finished third.
She was beaten a fair distance by winner Leac An Scail Lady and runner-up Fly Little Bird although there was plenty of distance back to the fourth and she could benefit from this shorter trip as she makes her handicap bow.
A mark of 95 could prove workable given she’s open to improvement and this doesn’t looks a particularly strong contest so there’d be no surprise in seeing her in the mix here.
