THURSDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR AYR, FFOS LAS, EXETER, SOUTHWELL & CHELMSFORD
1:05 Ayr – Winter Breaks At Western House Hotel Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-75) 1m2f
AYR POET has been in good form this term, already a three-time winner which includes over course and distance and Jim Goldie’s charge can get back on the winning trail.
The Poet’s Voice gelding has won on soft ground at Hamilton also this month and he bounced back from a lesser effort here to resume winning ways back at the Lanarkshire on his penultimate start, beating G For Gabrial in good style. He then lost no caste in defeat under a penalty back there last month behind Flying Moon.
Last time out he wasn’t seen to best effect, not ideally pleased but he ran on well and he could do better still stepping up in trip on this surface. He gets weight all round also from this field and providing this doesn’t come too soon ten days on from recent exertions then it would be no surprise to see him going close.
2:10 Ayr – October Family Staycations @Western House Hotel Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-85) 6f
JOHN KIRKUP let the column down when tipped to win his last outing over this course and distance but the Assertive gelding failed to deliver and could only finish fifth.
Michael Dods’ charge had run well the time before though to finish fourth in the Ayr Bronze Cup and he is given another chance with these conditions much more favourable than in recent outings.
The five-yearl old goes well in the mud and he posted his latest success over this course and distance in August in soft ground. He’s also won on heavy so these underfoot conditions will be right up his street and he can go close if producing his best form having posted that Bronze Cup win from 1lb higher in the weights.
Proven ability to win in what is sure to be testing ground and with a decent record at this track swings the vote in his favour and he is chanced to get back on the scoresheet assuming recent outings haven’t taken the edge off him.
2:30 Exeter – Subscribe To Racing TV On YouTube Handicap Chase (Challenger Middle Distance Chase Series Qualifier) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-130) 2m3f
Heavy ground at Fontwell over the past weekend saw GA LAW miss out on his intended outing but Jamie Snowden’s charge can collect having been rerouted to this contest where the Sinndar gelding can follow up his recent success.
A winner over hurdles in France he ran once over timber for his new yard at Stratford in March but made a good impression switched to chasing on his return from six months off, readily scoring at Fontwell last month with a five lengths’ defeat of Gateway To Europe.
Third-placed Getaway Trump has won since to boost that form and there’s likely to be improvement forthcoming from this potentially smart four-year old who should appreciate the better ground here and he can defy a 128 rating on his handicap debut to win again.
6:45 Southwell – Follow At The Races On Twitter Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 7f
EQUIDAE was chasing a hat-trick of wins when disappointing at Ayr last month, but the Equiano horse is taken to quickly bounce back.
Ian Jardine’s charge is 2-3 over this course and distance, registering the latest of those when successful under a penalty in August where he beat Star Of St James by two lengths; that form has been boosted with the runner-up, fourth and fifth all winning since.
Given he had been in good fettle prior to that lesser effort and he returns to fibresand for his latest outing – a surface which clearly suits – he could bounce back quickly from that lesser run last time and no surprise to see him going close here.
7:00 Chelmsford – tote.co.uk Free Streaming Every UK Race Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 5f
LANCELOT DU LAC hasn’t won for a while, but Dean Ivory’s veteran could get back on the winning trail here where he boasts a good record with two wins and a place over course and distance.
The Shamardal gelding scored his last success at this venue back in April 2018, beating Double Up from a mark of 107 although his form since has been patchy. The handicapper has relinquished his grip to some degree however and his latest outing at Kempton saw him beaten five lengths behind Phuket Power although he beat only two home on his first run in eight months.
He raced there from just 91 and the handicapper has dropped him another 2lbs so he’s very well handicapped on his old form and he should strip fitter for that recent return to action. He does have to concede weight to this field of rivals though, but he is capable of ending his losing streak if running up to something like his best and he’s taken to deliver despite advancing years.
