Thursday racing tips – Best bets at Kempton and Newcastle
Thursday horse racing best bets 11 February
With the cold weather claiming further racing casualties on Thursday we are left with just two meetings on the all-weather and we’ve picked out out our Thursday racing tips and best bets at Kempton and Newcastle.
From five scheduled UK horse racing meetings on Thursday to just two fixtures remaining following another raft of abandonments due to the cold, wet weather currently sweeping parts of the country.
Jumps fixtures at Doncaster, Huntingdon and Ffos Las have all been lost to the elements leaving the day’s agenda with a jumpers’ bumper card at Kempton, while Newcastle host a flat racing card in the evening under the floodlights assuming it passes a morning inspection having been snowed off on Wednesday.
With just two meetings going to post we’ve picked out our Thursday racing tips and best bets at both fixtures.
THURSDAY RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT KEMPTON & NEWCASTLE
2:40 Kempton – vbet.co.uk “Jumpers’ Bumper” National Hunt Flat Race (Div II) (AW) Cl5 (4yo+) 2m2f
ROQUE IT won a bumper on turf for Olly Murphy on just his second career start, beating Redford Road by one length at Huntingdon and the Presenting gelding has shown up well in two runs over hurdles for Paul Nicholls this campaign where he’s made the frame both times.
Third at Uttoxeter in November he went one better at Wincanton latest where he possibly bumped into a useful rival behind Sizable Sam. That one has gone in again since to boost the form and switching back to a bumper he could get back to winning ways in this contest.
Open to further improvement having had just four career starts the Nicholls runner ought to go close back in this discipline with the trip unlikely to present a problem and no surprise to see him in the mix.
3:10 Kempton – Play Golden Shot At Vbet Mares’ “Jumpers’ Bumper” National Hunt Flat Race (AW) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m
TOMORROW MYSTERY was a winner on the flat for Jamie Osborne prior to joining Paul Nicholls and the Nathaniel mare proved a progressive sort over hurdles, racking up a hat-trick of victories over timber which include a six lengths’ defeat of Playa Blanca at Newbury in November.
She reportedly had a breathing problem when disappointing at Taunton on her latest start where she eventually finished third to Robinshill. That winner has struck again since over fences and the selection returns from three months off having had wind surgery and she could easily bounce back here.
With her fairly useful flat form to call upon she ought not to be inconvenienced switching to the bumper ranks and every chance she can go close here.
4:15 Kempton – Vbet “Jumpers’ Bumper” National Hunt Flat Race (Div I) (AW) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m
BEYOND THE CLOUDS was a progressive and smart sort for Kevin Ryan earlier in his career, winning five of his first six starts which included a pair of bumpers and defeating Simply The Betts over hurdles at Musselburgh.
He also won on the flat at Ripon and the Peintre Celebre gelding has run well on his three outings this term over hurdles following his switch to Charlie Longsdon which includes a win at Uttoxeter in August.
Not seen since finishing fifth in a Listed hurdle at Market Rasen he’s had wind surgery in the wake of that run and makes his reappearance here following a break; he’s gone well fresh in the past and a return to this sphere will hold no fears so a big run could be looming.
5:30 Newcastle – Bombardier Golden Beer Handicap Cl4 (4yo+ 0-85) 7f
DAAFR has been in excellent fettle in recent runs, reeling off a hat-trick of wins at Southwell of which two came at this distance and he was denied only by a short-head back at that venue four days ago by Delph Crescent as he chased a four-timer.
He’s holding his form well despite a busy spell and this will be his seventh run already of 2021; but while he’s in his current groove he looks worth sticking with to continue to run well and dropping back to this trip on tapeta shouldn’t present too much of a problem as a dual-winner on this surface.
The application of a visor has certainly worked wonders with him and if the headgear continues to have a positive effect and the edge hasn’t been taken off him given the frequency of his recent runs then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the mix once more and he can get back to winning ways.
6:30 Newcastle – Betway Casino Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 6f
I KNOW HOW has won four times over this course and distance, scoring on two of his last three visits here which includes on his latest start last month where the Epaulette gelding had reopposing Pearl Of Qatar behind.
Julie Camacho’s charge ran out a half-length winner on that last occasion, keeping on well for the win and giving the runner-up 5lbs. That runner-up has landed two more runner-up efforts since and the pair reoppose with Tristan Davison’s rival now getting 6lbs from the selection although a 7lbs claimer wipes out that concession.
He is expected to run well again and every chance he can follow up his latest success to confirm the form with his old rival from their previous meeting.
