TAKAGARI was caught further back than ideal on his debut behind the reopposing The Contractor – who had had a run – over course and distance last month.

Robbie Sage’s charge was only a half-length behind his rival on that occasion when crossing the line in fourth; but he finished off the race strongly and the form has thrown up a subsequent winner.

The Judpot colt might be worth chancing to improve past that rival here and he could open his account here at the second attempt.

MYNAGE offered something to work on when finding only one too good on her debut over this course and distance last month. However, with that experience now under her belt the Pomodoro filly can go one better this time around.

Mike De Kock’s charge was only denied by a short-head and she had a few of these rivals in behind her. She can confirm those places here given her potential to improve on what was a promising first effort.

STUNNING may just have needed her last run over course and distance which came on the back of more than three months off the track. However despite looking rusty the Crusade filly found only one too good behind Wylie Wench.

Robbie Sage’s charge was only beaten one length on that occasion, and she had placed twice in four starts prior to her break so could be capable of better still.

While the form of her last run has taken a couple of knocks since, she should strip fitter for the return and can do better here.

12:10 – Racing Association Maiden Plate (3YO plus) 1m

CRANK IT UP has only once finished out of the frame in his six starts to date and the Marchfield gelding will be sharper for a recent spin at Vaal towards the end of February following three months off.

Johan Van Vuuren’s charge finished third on that occasion, beaten less than a length behind Opening Gambit when crossing the line in a close third. He can step up on that effort here with the extra furlong likely to suit and he could go close to a breakthrough success.

12:45 – Tab Pays The Full Dividend, No Limits Mr 109 Handicap (3YO plus) 1m

STORM DESTINY () has proven herself to be a useful sort, winning twice in 2018/19. Mike De Kock’s charge was entitled to have needed her last run over this course and distance earlier in the month and she can do better here.

The Dynasty filly failed to beat a rival home on that occasion behind Lady Of Steel; but that was her first outing in more than a year and it will have surely sharpened her up for this latest outing which comes relatively quickly following that outing.

A Graded winner, she could prove tough to beat in this easier contest if coming back to her best following her return to action and she can resume winning ways.

13:20 – Gins ‘N Roses 2 May Mr 102 Handicap (3YO plus) 1m 2f

MARSHALL FOCH () is on a hat-trick of wins having struck at both Vaal and here latterly, taking his tally to three wins his last four starts.

Paul Peter’s charge bids for a third straight success here having last been seen beating Hellofaride by almost four lengths over a furlong shorter than this trip.

However he should cope well with the extra distance and the Antonius Pius gelding can strike again to enhance his fine record under rider Warren Kennedy with the pair notching up four wins from six starts when teaming up.

13:55 – Join Us For The Joburg’s Prawn Festival 4 April Mr 88 Handicap (3YO plus) 1m 2f

TYRUS EXPRESS has improved this term, finishing runner-up over nine furlongs at this venue in February and going one place better latest when beating Untamed Tiger by the thick end of four lengths over one mile.

That win also came at this track and the Marchfield gelding could continue to improve now he’s got a first win under his belt. This extra distance could unlock some further improvement and he could follow up here.

14:35 – Play Soccer 6, 10 And 13 Mr 72 Handicap (3YO plus) 5f

HEAR THE TRUMPET wasn’t seen to best effect at Vaal last time out behind Towards The Sun; but the Var filly could be worth chancing to quickly bounce back.

David Nieuwenhuizen’s charge had won both previous starts, scoring at this venue over six furlongs before dropping to this distance to score at Vaal and it was a stronger race she took in last time.

That form has been boosted and she can get back on the winning trail here.

15:10 – Betting World – 087 741 2777 Graduation Plate (F & M) (3YO plus) 7f

STELLAR MOTION returned from more than six months off the track to register an impressive course and distance success over Maddox Tune and the Captain Of All filly can follow up here to bag a hat-trick of wins.

Candice Dawson’s charge had also won at Vaal back in July last year prior to her absence; but she showed no signs of rustiness to score easily when last seen in January and she can build on that success returning from another short break.

This is tougher and the form of her last win has been let down; but if she can continue to show race-by-race improvement as she has been doing then she can remain competitive.

15:40 – Next Turffontein Racemeeting Saturday 21 March Mr 80 Handicap (3YO plus) 7f

BASSAM has hit the crossbar the last twice in starts at Vaal and here latterly, but Mike De Kock’s charge can go one better here to get off the mark.

The Vercingetorix gelding finished just a neck behind Opening Gambit at Vaal in February but possibly found the extra furlong stretching him latest here over one mile where he finished three lengths’ third to Golden Tune.

The third home in that race has won since and he could benefit from the return to this shorter trip so every chance he can open his win account now.
