Horse Racing Tips on Thursday, August 4

There are six meetings spread across Britain on Thursday, August 4th with the action coming from Nottingham, Yarmouth, Brighton, Sandown, Doncaster and Ayr. Our expert tipster has produced their best bets across the cards, which make up our advised Thursday Lucky 15.

Just Amber (2.00 Nottingham) 5/1

Holocene is expected to be a short price for the Join Racing TV Now Fillies’ Handicap, but she isn’t progressing and this drop back in trip asks a question of her, so preference instead goes to JUST AMBER.

Clive Cox’s filly hasn’t scored since landing a mile handicap at Bath last October, but she has shaped as though her turn mightn’t be far off in a pair of starts this campaign, building on a Kempton reappearance fourth when occupying the same finishing position over course and distance last week.

The latest run can certainly be upgraded as Just Amber was quite severely hampered when beginning to make a challenge, and caught the eye afterwards staying on to finish just over 3l off the leader.

William Cox now removes a handy 3lb from the saddle and granted a little better luck in running here, Just Amber looks set to go close.

Percy Jones (3.20 Brighton) 6/1

The Star Sports Bet Brighton Challenge Cup Handicap is the feature race at Brighton on Thursday, and of the runners, PERCY JONES looks the most interesting.

This gelding hasn’t managed to get his head in front in six starts to date, but he has run well in defeat on a number of occasions, including when runner-up at Goodwood on seasonal reappearance, the horse directly behind franking the form since.

Percy Jones was then upped in class and trip at Haydock last time, where he outran odds of 18/1 to finish fifth, reversing Goodwood form with Double Cherry.

Both of those runs came on soft ground, but Percy Jones handled a decent surface as a juvenile, and the booking of top apprentice Benoit De La Sayette here suggests that connections are confident of a bold showing.

Bibulous (4.00 Nottingham) 10/3

Henry Candy is well known for improving his sprinters, and his BIBULOUS looks one to be with in Nottingham’s concluding Watch Irish Racing On RacingTV Handicap.

This son of Camacho has run well in defeat in both starts this season, finishing third on both occasions.

He was an eyecatcher in a course and distance handicap last time, enduring a nightmare run on the stands rail and getting going all too late once seeing daylight, ultimately almost getting up for second.

Bibulous runs off the same mark of 68 here, so if he can get a smoother passage when making his challenge, he should be well worth backing to gain compensation.

Thursday Lucky 15 Tips. Dane O'Neill can score at Nottingham aboard Henry Candy's Bibulous.

Sapphire’s Moon (4.20 Brighton) 5/1

Tony Carroll targets this Brighton meeting every year, and he holds an excellent chance of claiming the John Hartwell And Dennis Gray Memorial Classified Stakes with SAPPHIRE’S MOON.

This daughter of Ardad comes into Thursday’s race a 14-race maiden, but she went close on a couple of occasions last summer, interestingly putting up her two career-high RPRs at the start of last August.

Sapphire’s Moon has failed to finish better than fifth in her four starts this season, but her two best performances have both come here at Brighton, most recently finishing sixth (beaten just 3l) that coming despite her rearing once the stalls opened and losing lengths at the start.

Sapphire’s Moon drops into Classified company for the first time here, and on both pedigree and her recent form, she looks a potential improver for the step up to 7f. If she can leave the stalls better this time, she looks sure to put up a bold showing.
