Masters Apprentice won nicely on his first start over hurdles and has to be in the discussion. That being said, you don’t often see horses carrying penalties to victory in novice contests at this stage of the season and he’ll have his work cut out giving weight to the field.

Order Of Thistle is entitled to come on from his first run over hurdles, where he finished an eleven-length fifth, and managed to win on the flat here at Sedgefield last summer. Whether he has the quality to see off newcomer MINELLA TRUMP (NAP) is highly doubtful though.

This son of Shantou made one appearance between the flags for point-to-point trainer John Nallen. True, he faced little in the way of opposition that day, but Minella Trump was still handed an RPR of 90 for his convincing six-length triumph, a fairly high rating for winners at that level.

Donald McCain is the winning-most trainer here at Sedgefield and has been in the winners’ of late, saddling two impressive victors at Bangor yesterday afternoon. Brian Hughes, the leading jockey at practically all of the northern venues, is the perfect jockey to accompany Minella Trump as me makes his first start under rules and I think 13/8 could look extremely good value come the start of the content.
