Cheltenham and Doncaster are the two highlight meetings on Saturday, 14th December. Here are the Racing Tips team’s best bets for throughout the day.
1.50 Cheltenham – Il Ridoto (NAP)
A winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup, IL RIDOTO is a horse you can set your watch by over this trip at Cheltenham. He was pegged back only on the line in this race last year, and while he is 7lb off at the weights with the winner Fugitif, he arrives here in substantially better form. He is only seven years old, so there could easily be more to come from him and an 8lb rise for last month’s success is reasonable given he may have won by a good bit further if he had not idled on the run in.
2.05 Cheltenham – Gaboriot (NB)
GABORIOT was in fine form as a hunter chaser at the end of last season through to late May. He won three races in that sphere in good style before returning to handicaps in the Grand Sefton at Aintree last month. He finished a strong-staying third, but that 2m5f trip would have been far shorter than ideal. Even this 3m trip could be on the speedy side for this eight-year-old, but he is in the form of his life, will see out the trip whatever the conditions, and is up just 1lb for his effort in a better race than this last time out.
1.13 Cheltenham – Game On For Glory (Outsider)
Lucy Wadham’s mare GAME ON FOR GLORY has some form from within the last 14 months which suggests she could cause an upset in the mares’ handicap chase she contests at Cheltenham on Saturday. She was a close second behind the now 147-rated Marsh Wren when only in receipt of 3lb at Warwick in November 2023 and is only 2lb higher than her winning mark at Ludlow in February. That day’s runner-up is now rated 6lb higher and the selection here has had a run to get her fit and should readily improve from that reappearance fourth.
