HORSE RACING BEST BETS – TUESDAY TIPS AT TAUNTON, KEMPTON & SOUTHWELL
12:45 Kempton – vbet.vo.uk Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (GBB Race) (Div I) (AW) Cl5 (4-6yo) 2m
BALCO COASTAL finished runner-up on his sole start in a point-to-point prior to joining Nicky Henderson, but the winner of that race was Gentlemansgame who subsequently won at Cork enroute to finishing runner-up in a Grade One at the Dublin Racing Festival last weekend.
The Coastal Path gelding changed hands for a six-figure sum in the wake of that run and he probably wouldn’t need to improve a great deal to make a winning switch to bumpers for his top yard.
This looks a decent opportunity for him to make an immediate impact and no surprise if he proves tough to beat here.
1:55 Taunton – Newton King Estate Agents Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m3f
TIME TO TINKER improved on his hurdles debut to find only the unbeaten Stellar Magic too strong over this course and distance back in December; however the Stowaway gelding might be able to reverse that form on considerably better terms.
Paul Nicholls’ charge was beaten just over one length on that occasion where a tongue-tie was applied and he finished off the race well without quite matching the winner. However the pair were competing on level weights and the selection has a 12lbs pull now so he has to be of serious interest that he can turn the tables.
His unbeaten rival is destined for the Cheltenham Festival and there’s a suspicion he could have a fair bit more to come; but the concession of so much weight might just anchor him and the Nicholls runner is taken to come out on top on this occasion.

ECCO has proven a very useful sort over hurdles, winning twice last term and getting back on the scoresheet two starts ago at Doncaster in December when running out an eight lengths’ victor over Glynn.
Paul Nicholls’ charge lost little in defeat when last seen at Kempton on Boxing Day, finishing seven lengths’ runner-up behind Monte Cristo although there was a similar gap back to the third and he has the ability to get involved given he was a fair sort on the flat in Germany earlier in his career.
His top trainer has a 1 in 3 strike rate with its’ bumper runners over the past year and with Lorcan Williams taking off a handy 3lbs the Maxios gelding looks to hold very solid claims of a return to winning ways.
4:00 Taunton – Elise Jones Virtual 18th Birthday Celebration Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m½f
Colin Tizzard’s runners are beginning to turn a corner into better form and it might be worth chancing AMARILLO SKY to get off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt.
The Westerner gelding was a point-to-point winner in Ireland prior to joining this yard and he’s finished fourth on both starts over hurdles at Newbury and Ascot respectively, the latter coming behind the smart Metier back in November.
That was a decent effort all things considered and given the winner has since won a Grade One and the runner-up has finished third on both subsequent outings the form looks very solid and an opening rating of 117 might prove workable on his handicap debut.
The yard won this contest last year and he might be worth chancing to give the stable further success in the race now they appear to finding some better form after a spell in the wilderness.
4:20 Kempton – Join VBet ‘Jumpers’ Bumper’ National Hunt Flat Race (AW) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m
DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTOO had hit the deck in each of his last three starts over hurdles, but the Presenting gelding has been contesting at a good level and might find this level much easier.
Nick Gifford’s charge won his first two career starts in bumpers which include an Ascot Listed contest prior to finishing midfield in the 2018 Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.
He then struck a pair of hurdles wins at Fakenham and Ascot, beating Thomas Darby on the latter occasion but he struggled subsequently and his jumping has let him down in recent outings.
However with no obstacles to contend with this time and given his good form in bumpers earlier in his career he could thrive in this environment to resume winning ways.
5:15 Southwell – Bombardier Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 7f
LOVE YOUR WORK won this prize twelve months ago and Stef Keniry’s charge arrives here on the back of a solid runner-up effort latest and can go one better this time around to successfully defend his title.
The Helmet gelding posted his latest win in this race last year where he saw off Tranchee by a neck and he was only narrowly thwarted by the same margin in his hat-trick bid before going off the boil on turf.
He’s struggled to recapture that level of form but perhaps found himself in the grip of the handicapper and he can race here from 3lbs below his last winning rating so a repeat of his latest runner-up effort where he was beaten two lengths by Daafr could be good enough to see him get back to winning ways especially given that form has been boosted.
Assuming he can back up that latest performance then he looks the one to beat in this contest and he ought to go close off this rating as he bids to win this race for a second successive year.
