TUESDAY HORSE RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT WETHERBY, LINGFIELD & NEWCASTLE
1:30 Wetherby – Bet At racingtv.com Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m3½f
ONWARD ROUTE showed a fair level of ability in bumpers firstly for Ruth Jefferson and more recently for his current yard where he tackled a Listed contest on his penultimate start.
The Yeats gelding shaped encouragingly again switched to hurdles at Newcastle last month where he finished around seven lengths’ third behind Enqarde where he made a couple of tired late mistakes and it is possible the trip stretched his stamina.
Rebecca Menzies drops him back in distance for this outing and he can progress with that experience under his belt so he could prove a different proposition now if building on that first effort.
1:45 Lingfield – Betway Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 5f
HEY HO LET’S GO almost landed the NAP for this column when caught on the line over six furlongs here earlier in the month and the Dream Ahead gelding is taken to go one better.
Martin Hoad’s charge was finishing runner-up for the third time in succession where he’s been beaten a half-length or less on each occasion and the Dream Ahead gelding was racing from 1lb out of the weights when denied by a head latest behind Desert Land.
Only run down late he was collared in the shadows of the post and a 4lbs rise in the weights may not stop him gaining some compensation with the drop to the minumum trip no issue.
2:15 Lingfield – Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football Handicap Cl5 (3yo 0-75) 5f
STAY SMART has been in good form of late, twice finishing runner-up either side of a win at Newcastle in December and the Brazen Beau colt can get back to winning ways here.
David O’Meara’s charge ran out a two lengths’ victor over Fircombe Hall back in December, making all and appearing to score a shade cosily. He perhaps wasn’t seen to best effect last time where he was held up and he finished a well-beaten runner-up behind Obtuse.
Despite that defeat he could prove the one to beat on these terms and he should give another good account where he can get back on track under Adam Kirby who rides this track well and the pair ought to go close.
3:10 Wetherby – Racing TV Anywhere Handicap Chase (Northern Lights Staying Chase Series Qualifier) Cl4 (5yo+ 0-120) 3m
SEEMINGLY SO has found only one too good on both his starts so far over fences and Olly Murphy’s charge might be able to go one better here.
The Dubai Destination gelding was a hurdles winner on his debut for this yard back in November 2018 and he’s relatively lightly raced since so could yet have more to offer and his two starts thus far over the larger obstacles have been promising.
Runner-up at Doncaster on his final start of last campaign he chased home Scoop The Pot at Newcastle on his return from more than nine months off and he ought to be sharper with that under his belt so it would be no surprise to see him going one better here from the same mark.
5:00 Newcastle – Betway Conditions Stakes (All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) Cl2 (4yo+) 5f
VENTUROUS has three wins from his last four starts with his sole defeat in that time possibly a result of a quick turnaround and David Barron’s charge can continue his good spell.
The Raven’s Pass gelding turned in wins at Doncaster and over course and distance in November prior to running a shade below his best at Wolverhampton five days later; but he bounced back on his next outing back at Wolverhampton when beating Lord Riddiford by just over one length and his progress might not have stopped just yet.
He appeared to win a shade readily in that last success and back here where he has a decent record he could follow up despite another 4lbs rise in the weights. Having had a breather since his last outing he can go well here and no surprise to see him involved at the business end.
6:30 Newcastle – Bombardier “March To Your Own Drum” Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-75) 7f
DEOLALI is a five-time course winner and arrives here on a hat-trick having won his last two outings the latter of which came under a penalty over this course and distance just after Christmas.
The Sleeping Indian gelding struck by just over one length on that occasion, making all and finding plenty to maintain his advantage to the line and that form looks solid with the fourth and sixth horses home both going close in subsequent runs since.
A further 4lbs rise in the ratings looks workable on the evidence of that last success and every chance he can land the hat-trick here despite likely facing competition for the lead. Four of his five wins at this venue have come at the distance and he ought to be involved once more.
