TUESDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S UK RACEMEETINGS
2:30 Ripon – attheraces.com City Of Ripon Handicap Cl4 (4yo+ 0-80) 1m2f
STRAWMAN is chasing a hat-trick of wins having won both his starts following a switch to this yard from Adrian Nicholls’ stable and the Starspangledbanner gelding can oblige punters.
A winner at Beverley on his stable debut he followed up in determined style at Carlisle latest, getting up late to deny Detective by a short-head and that rival has done little harm to that form since.
He’s been raised 5lbs for that win which will demand a bit more from him, but rider Gemma Tutty can claim this time around so he’s effectively only up 2lbs as a result which is more manageable and still relatively unexposed he should give another good account as he bids for a three-timer.
4:00 Epsom – Harry Taylor’s 21st Birthday Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 1m4f
HEY TEACHER has had just three runs in his career to date and the unexposed Fascinating Rock gelding can follow up his breakthrough victory at Ffos Las last time out.
Andrew Balding’s charge has improved with each start in novice company, finding only one too good over this trip at Bath in July before going one better latest where he ran out a wide margin victor over Scherbobalob, scoring by nine lengths and there could be better to come from him now tackling handicaps.
Carrying an initial mark of 70 into this contest he may have been let in lightly and while he could face some competition for the lead he’s taken to find improvement and land the spoils here.
4:35 Epsom – John Benstead Handicap (A Jockey Club Grassroots Middle Distance Qualifier) Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 1m2f
DOLPHIN VISTA hasn’t won for a while but his last couple of runs have hinted that the Zoffany gelding may be about to strike and Jim Boyle’s charge is chanced to do so here.
His last victory came in a French Listed contest back in August 2019 but his form since has been very patchy and he cut little ice last term although he did tackle better races than this before having a spell over hurdles.
He hasn’t been at his best this term although there have been better signs since being fitted with a visor with a pair of third-placed efforts and he was only beaten a half–length into third over this course and distance last time where he met with plenty of trouble in running before finishing well.
A subsequent winner was behind him that day and he can compete from the same mark here; while he’s made the frame in two of three visits to this venue so another big performance wouldn’t be a surprise.
5:45 Hexham – Follow At The Races On Twitter Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m4f
SHERIFF GARRETT has been kept busy this year but comes into the race on the back of a short break and Lawman gelding can get back to winning ways here.
Tim Easterby’s charge has won twice from his last four starts over hurdles – both over C&D – and may have found his last run when only fifth under a penalty at Cartmel perhaps coming too soon. He’s been freshened up since however and could bounce back here with a better effort.
That Cartmel form has been franked with the winner and runner-up both going in again since and back at this venue where he has a decent record he can go well on his return to action following a couple of months’ break.
4:55 Newton Abbot – Happy 80th Birthday Bob Robinson Handicap Chase Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m5f
PETERBOROUGH landed a hat-trick of victories around this time last year and while the Fuisse gelding hasn’t been in the same form this campaign Evan Williams’ charge is taken to get back to wining ways.
The eight-year old turned in his best performance of the season when chasing home Casa Tall in an eventful contest here earlier in the month, running on having been outpaced but no match for the winner and he could do better now faced with the longer trip on that recent evidence.
He certainly wasn’t out of things when unseating his rider three out at Market Rasen the time before and the course winner races off his last successful mark so should make his presence felt assuming this doesn’t come too soon just ten days on from his last outing.
6:30 Newton Abbot – Talk Tidy Marketing Handicap Chase Cl3 (4yo+ 0-125) 3m2f
SIZING CUSIMANO might be hard to peg back around this track and Colin Tizzard’s charge can resume winning ways here.
The Midnight Legend gelding has been in good form this term, winning twice at Uttoxeter earlier in the summer and only narrowly denied a hat-trick there when going down by a neck latest behind No No Maestro in a race which turned into a match from a fair way out as rivals fell by the wayside.
He remains on a workable mark despite that defeat and reunited with Brendan Powell who gets on well with the eight-year old he ought to make his presence felt back over this longer trip and with stamina assured he gets the nod to come out on top.
