TUESDAY UK RACING TIPS – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S RACING MEETINGS
1:30 Catterick – Gaspara Asset Management Handicap (Div I) Cl6 (3yo+ 0-60) 6f
QUERCUS has been in good form of late, winning two of his last three starts and going close over course and distance latest; Ann Duffield’s charge can quickly resume the winning trend here.
The Nayef gelding had landed his two wins over course and distance earlier in August, seemingly suited by the drop back to sprinting and there was little caste lost when thwarted in his hat-trick attempt latest behind Blissful Song where he might have gone off too hard under a penalty.
Now 1lb lower he ought to remain competitive over this course and trip which has certainly been a positive move and he can make his presence felt.
2:35 Catterick – Get So Much More With Racing TV Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 7f
LANGHOLM has been largely consistent this term, winning at Carlisle in June and then making the frame on a number of occasions which include over course and distance prior to resuming winning ways back here when last seen.
Michael Dods’ charge scored by a neck on that occasion from reopposing Jakacan over this trip, finding plenty and always holding on; that form hasn’t quite worked out but a 2lbs rise in the weights looks very fair and he’s been competitive from this mark in the past so ought to give another good account.
This looks quite competitive for the grade but his generally consistent profile marks him as one to consider and there’d be no shock in seeing him running well again.
2:55 Goodwood – EBF Peter Willett Future Stayers’ Maiden Stakes (Sire/Dam-Restricted) (GBB) (IRE Incentive Race) Cl2 (2yo) 1m
It is interesting that Mark Johnston sends PONS AELIUS on the long journey south from Middleham to make his debut and the Galileo colt can make the trip worthwhile with a win at the first attempt.
Related to a smart Group Three winner in Ireland and bred to be useful with his dam also a French Group Two winner he represents a yard in good form and one which does well here; assuming he knows his job first time up as many from the stable do then he could post a big effort on his first racecourse appearance.
3:50 Leicester – Join RacingTV Today Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 7f
Only four runners here but IBIZA ROCKS could prove a tough nut to crack with Ryan Moore up and Charlie Hills’ charge can get back on the scoresheet.
The Dark Angel colt is the least exposed of this field having had just four starts, one of which saw him win at Newbury as a juvenile last September. He’s since gone close at Kempton in April and returned from four months off to run well into second in a competitive Sandown contest in August where he was beaten three lengths behind Silent Escape.
That race has thrown up a subsequent winner and there’s a feeling the winner was above average and well-handicapped so it was a creditable run despite failing to trouble the victor although he was clear of the third.
He’s only up 2lbs following that run and likely has better to come in handicaps and ought to make his presence felt here where he can resume winning ways.
4:05 Goodwood – Royal Sussex Regiment Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 2m
JUST HUBERT has shown some improved form since adopting more forceful tactics, winning the last twice in starts at Ascot and here and the Muir and Grassick runner can continue his progression to land the hat-trick.
Following a blip here during the Glorious Goodwood Festival where he refused to race he has since struck up a good partnership with Nicola Currie, winning both races where he’s been partnered by the rising star and he appeared to win a shade comfortably latest when outpointing Autumn War by three-parts of a length.
A 3lbs rise for that victory looks workable and assuming this doesn’t come too soon eleven days on from that outing then he ought to make his presence felt again and the Dunaden gelding can bring up the three-timer of wins.
4:45 Windsor – British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) Cl5 (2yo) 6f
BELL SHOT has had two starts already in his career and has finished fourth on both occasions; Charlie Hills’ charge can improve to get off the mark at the third attempt and the Dark Angel colt boasts arguably the strongest form coming into this contest.
Having shaped quite well on is debut he ran better than the result when last seen at Newbury, perhaps going off too hard and he could be well suited by dropping to a sprint trip now as he bids to get off the mark.
That latest form does look decent however with the runner-up going one better next time while the race-winner finished runner-up in a Listed contest on his next outing and this doesn’t look quite as strong a contest so he ought to make his presence felt again and further improvement should put him firmly in the mix.
