Tuesday’s 6,847/1 Lucky 15 – Our UK Racing Best Bets On August 23

Horse Racing Tips on Tuesday, August 23

There are three meetings spread across Britain on Tuesday, August 23rd with the action coming from Worcester, Bangor and Fontwell. Our expert tipster has produced their best bets across the cards, which make up our advised Tuesday Lucky 15.

Cardboard Gangster (1.30 Worcester) 3/1

The At The Races App Market Movers Handicap Chase looks like a good opportunity for CARDBOARD GANGSTER to gain his third win from his last five starts.

D J Jeffreys’ charge justified favouritism to score at Perth in June and bounced back from a Stratford defeat (when finding the extended 2m3f too sharp) to once again justify market favouritism back at Stratford last time.

Cardboard Gangster will appreciate this extra half furlong and the longer straight in which he can build up a challenge, so despite going up 5lb he rates value to go in again.

Tuesday Lucky 15 Tips. Kielan Woods and trainer D J Jeffreys can team up to success on Tuesday's Worcester card with Cardboard Gangster.

Hurricane Ali (3.00 Worcester) 6/1

Worcester’s Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Hurdle doesn’t rate the strongest of 0-140 handicaps, with the top weight being the 132-rated Pisgah Pike, who needs to back up a recent 22/1 Market Rasen success.

HURRICANE ALI was only eighth in that Worcester race, but he wasn’t beaten much over 13l that despite being heavily eased down once his chance had gone. On bare weights and measurements, now factoring in his rider’s 5lb claim Hurricane Ali meets Pisgah Pike on 9lb better terms which should be enough to reverse the form.

Hurricane Ali had previously arrived into that Worcester race in excellent form, and his Market Rasen showing can be upgraded given he was squeezed out approaching the final flight. Granted better luck in running here, he can get back to winning ways.

Iberia (3.45 Bangor) 11/1

Bangor’s GBR Everyone’s Turf Handicap Hurdle looks like an open affair and it might pay to take a chance on IBERIA.

Gary Hanmer’s charge was a one-time Group 3 placed juvenile, and although he’s 0-15 since landing a Curragh maiden on debut, he shaped with promise on a couple of occasions for previous trainer Josh Halley and was in the process of running his best race to date for these connections before unseating his rider at the final flight.

That came in maiden company, but Iberia has been dropped 4lb on his return to handicaps and has received wind surgery since last seen. Iberia’s mark of 105 is only slightly higher than his Flat rating of 89, and connections now turn to a new headgear combination, which looks capable of unlocking improvement.

Tuesday Lucky 15 Tips. Kevin Brogan holds a lively chance on Bangor's Tuesday card with Iberia.

Abegudsam (4.00 Worcester) 10/1

Ian Williams came agonisingly close to landing Saturday’s Ebor with Alfred Boucher, a relatively new recruit for the stable, and making his debut for the yard on Tuesday, ABEGUDSAM can provide some small consolation with victory in Worcester’s closing At The Races App Form Study Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

This 5yo was a point winner last October and made a promising rules debut when third at Uttoxeter for previous trainer Olly Murphy.

Abegudsam wasn’t at that level in his next two starts yet had excuses having jumped out to his left at Hereford and then bleeding from the nose when last seen finishing pulled up at Warwick in March.

Abegudsam makes his stable/handicap debut on the back of a break, which can be the time to catch horses that bled last time, and on that Uttoxeter form an opening mark of 108 has the potential to seriously underestimate him.
