TUESDAY’S IRISH RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT ROSCOMMON
4:40 Roscommon – Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Race Final (Plus 10 Race) (2yo) 7½f
AMBER KITE has improved with each run, getting off the mark at the third attempt having made the frame on both previous outings.
Ger Lyons’ charge ran out a half-length winner over Anna Strada at Gowran Park last month, making most and finding plenty at the finish to hold off the runner-up with the pair pulling four lengths’ clear of the rest.
The New Bay filly likely has more to offer on the back of that breakthrough success and the stiffer test last time might have been a catalyst for improvement. She can take another forward step here and can follow up that last-time win.
5:15 Roscommon – J.F. Hanley Maiden (3yo+) 7½f
BIG WHITE CHIEF possibly bumped into one on his debut at Limerick last month, finding only one too good and the form looks fair with that winner running well since in defeat.
Jessica Harrington’s charge was beaten little over one length on that debut outing and the War Front colt could improve for the experience to go one better here from a good draw.
This could develop into a match between the selection and Ken Condon’s Teed Up who has finished runner-up on both starts; but with that one having a less appealing berth to race form it is the Harrington runner who gets the vote to come out on top.
6:15 Roscommon – Fuerty Handicap (3yo+ 45-70) 7½f
BILLYFAIRPLAY has yet to open his account on turf, but the Dark Angel gelding is a four-time winner on the all-weather and he has been running creditably in defeat in recent weeks so might be worth chancing here to finally break his duck on this surface.
Denis Hogan’s charge has attained a podium finish the last twice, finding only one too good at Galway last month and then crossing the line just over one length third behind Lady Boomerang at Cork latest.
A 2lbs rise for that latest near miss is fair and he’s placed from higher in the past as well as winning on the all-weather from marks greater than his current rating so he could still have some scope. He can continue to give a good account and he ought to be in the mix once more.
7:15 Roscommon – Sean Cleary Memorial Handicap (4yo+ 45-70) 1m4f
UNIVERSAL FOCUS has taken a couple of runs to come to hand this campaign, but recent runs suggest his turn in the winners’ enclosure isn’t too far away and Ross O’sullivan’s charge can strike here.
Third to the reopposing Shumaker at Down Royal last month, possibly given too much to do the Intense Focus gelding went one better when last seen at Leopardstown when contesting over this longer trip.
Only Full Moon Magic proved too strong on that occasion, beaten three lengths, but she was badly hampered in that race and probably would have got a lot closer if not won outright. The third from that race has won since and he’s only 3lbs higher in the weights so could give another good account as he bids to get back on the scoresheet.
