*Odds correct at time of posting – 4pm Monday 5th September*
Vermilion (1.30 Leicester) – 4/1
Some promising sorts in here but none more so than VERMILION. Andrew Balding’s filly made a pleasing debut at Salisbury in July and the form has been working out nicely since.
The winner Mehme has since followed up in a Class 2 race at Newmarket, and the runner-up Rose Price won next time out too, before going close in a Class 2 at Ascot over the weekend. Vermilion ran green in spells during that race but caught the eye with the way she finished and should put in a bold effort to win this.
Behind The Scenes won nicely on debut last month and could be a big danger, but she does have to give weight away to the field and at the prices we’d sooner side with Vermilion.
Themaxwecan (3.40 Goodwood) – 11/4
It could pay to side with those with proven stamina in this, and who better than two-time winner of the race THEMAXWECAN. He won the race in 2019 off a mark of 98 and last year off of 96 so the fact he’s 94 this time is a major plus point for us!
He may not have been in the best of form this year, he’s been racing over different trips and getting back to this trip worked last time out, as he won the Shergar Cup Stayers Handicap. It looks like he’s coming into form at the right time, and he looks to have a huge chance of landing a hat-trick of wins in the race.
Gary Moore’s Aggagio looks to be the biggest danger, who does have a fantastic record at Goodwood, but he races off a career high flat mark here. It should be between those two, and we’re confident Themaxwecan can maintain his superb record in the race.
Ipanema Princess (4.10 Goodwood) – 4/1
A return to England and a drop in class can see IPANEMA PRINCESS get back to winning ways. She’s had three tough races since making all to win at Epsom in July and this looks much more winnable.
Having struggled in Listed company at Sandown, connections sent her to France for two Group 3’s at Deauville. She wasn’t quite up to the task but returns to much calmer waters here, and the Goodwood course should suit. Top jockey Jim Crowley is on board for the first time and that’s a huge positive for his chances, especially with the form he is in (26% strike-rate in the past two weeks).
Sirona was hugely impressive when winning on debut by 5 lengths, but this is a step up in class and at the prices, Ipanema Princess is more than capable of putting it up to the favourite.
Yaxeni (6.40 Galway) – 4/1
Listed action at Galway, and the feature can go to Ger Lyons’ YAXENI. She has to give weight away to the field but she’s more than capable of that and this looks a golden opportunity to get back to winning ways.
Her last three runs have resulted in a Listed win over at Gowran Park, a neck second in a Group 3 in the Munster Oaks, and a half length runner-up in a Listed race at Roscommon. That’s the best form of offer here and she’s been given two months off, so comes here refreshed and hopefully ready to strike!
Top Irish Jockey Colin Keane has been on board for all three of her career victories, and he’s arguably the best jockey in Ireland these days so his booking is a positive to Yaxeni’s chances.
Goodie Two Shoes won nicely on debut and can give our selection most to worry about. But, Vadena has been plying her trade in better races than this, and can grab a fourth career victory.
