UK FRIDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S FIVE FIXTURES ON THE FLAT

1:50 Newmarket – bet365 Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m2f

DUBAI HONOUR ran well on his reappearance in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot and with that under his belt William Haggas’ charge can get back on the scoresheet here.

The Pride Of Dubai gelding progressed well last term, winning at Haydock prior to posting a very good fourth at York behind The Flying Ginger despite perhaps not being fully suited by the softer ground. He ran well on his reappearance though when filling the same spot at Ascot on his return where he was drawn on the unfavoured far side, finishing first of those who came down that side having stayed on well.

He wore a tongue-tie for the first time there and the headgear is retained for this assignment where he should be sharper for the run and the better ground here will be in his favour so every chance of a big performance here.

CORMIER has shown a fair level of ability on the flat and over hurdles, contesting at Cheltenham last November behind The Shunter in the Greatwood Hurdle and returning from a break with an excellent second at Haydock in the Swinton Hurdle behind Copperless.

Brian Ellison’s charge returned to the flat for his last run where he ran out a comfortable winner of a Pontefract handicap and the Born To Sea gelding can follow up here.

He was a dual-winner last term at Catterick in good and soft ground and his latest victory also came in softer conditions so he’ll have no issue with the ground here and he did well to win in the circumstances last time having met with trouble in running and being bumped.

A 6lbs rise in the weights for that victory does demand more from him but he remains fairly treated on his hurdling exploits and having won with something in hand last time he can defy his new mark to score again here.

2:15 Ascot – Biowavego #Goyou Handicap Cl3 (3yo 0-90) 1m

ZOFFARELLI can get back to winning ways here having looked unlucky at Bath last time out and the Zoffany gelding can strike here.

A winner at Kempton last September he also twice finished runner-up on the Rowley Mile Course at this venue with the latest of those coming when denied only a neck by Wobwobwob in a Class 2 event.

Having showed he had trained on when making a decent reappearance at Sandown in June he stepped up on that effort to finish runner-up again, this time at Bath where he met with trouble in running and conceding first run before finishing off strongly to go down only by a head.

He’s due to go up in the weights in future runs but Beckett has employed the services of Laura Pearson for this assignment and her 5lbs claim is noteworthy so she has to be of interest here of an effective 84 rating and no surprise if she were to get back on the up.

2:25 Newmarket – Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Sponsored By bet365) (Group 2) (Fillies) Cl1 (2yo) 6f

The first three horses home in the Albany Stakes all reoppose here and SANDRINE can confirm her superiority and maintain her unbeaten record.

Andrew Balding’s charge had looked a smart prospect on her debut when readily scoring at Kempton in May prior to tackling the Group Three contest at Royal Ascot where both reopposing Hello You and Oscula finished behind her as she ran out a comfortable winner.

She struck by the better part of two lengths on that occasion despite being drawn low and she’s surely got further improvement to come so could prove the one to beat here if not inconvenienced by the quicker ground.

2:40 York – William Hill Summer Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f

ONASSIS could be worth chancing to get back to winning ways having shaped better than the bare result on her reappearance at Royal Ascot last month in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

That was her first run since finishing sixth in the previous season’s Champion Sprint behind Glen Shiel and while she beat only two home behind Indie Angel latest she looked in need of the outing and should strip much fitter this time around.

Softer ground is in her favour and the drop back to six furlongs will hold few fears for the Dubawi filly wo won three times last term including twice in Listed company and she can progress on the back of her return to do much better this time around.

3:25 Ascot – biowavego.co.uk Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m2f

NAVAL COMMANDER made a winning reappearance at Newbury last month to double his win tally having also struck gold at Leicester last season and Robyn Brisland’s charge can strike again here if the softer ground doesn’t prove an inconvenience.

The French Navy gelding was returning from ten months off the track when beating Gin Palace by two lengths in that reappearance, quickening up well for a ready success and there could be even more to come from him with that under his belt.

This longer trip could even unlock another jolt of improvement and while he has a little more on his plate upped 4lbs in the handicap he can turn in another big performance which could see him strike again although his winning form to date has come on quicker ground than this and he’ll need to prove effectiveness on these much slower conditions.

If he does though then there’s no reason why he can’t make his presence felt and he can go close.

6:45 Chepstow – Nigel Says Letmetellusomething Fillies’ Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-75) 6f

THEOTHERSIDE showed that she might be coming back into some form with a decent fourth at Doncaster two weeks ago and if the Dandy Man filly can step forward for that effort then she could get back to winning ways here.

Richard Hannon’s charge won three of her first five career starts and contested some decent races although her progress appeared to stall and her first few runs of the new campaign were underwhelming.

However she went close latest to a return to winning ways, finishing a close fourth to Giogiobbo where she was just run down late having gone to the front in the last furlong.

This doesn’t look any stronger a race and she can turn out from the same mark although a 7lbs claimer takes over in the saddle now and she ought to go close as a result from an effective 69 rating if she can build on that better performance here.

EVER GIVEN made a good debut impression when running out a ready winner of a Ripon contest back in May, beating Bolton Abbey by three lengths and while he couldn’t follow up at Pontefract next time he may have found that run coming too soon just twelve days on.

Tom Dascombe’s charge has also seen that form being franked as the third horse has since won a Group Two at Newmarket and the front two home both contested at Royal Ascot in the Coventry Stakes and Norfolk Stakes respectively.

He’s been given a bit more of a break and he switches here to handicapping where a mark of 80 could prove very workable, while Kieran Schofield’s 5lbs claim is another positive to his chances. Also proven in the mud he could quickly get back on track here having had more of a break between runs and he can pick up again on the winning thread.
