2:20 Leicester – William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap (6f)

EQUATE had some solid form to his name in nurseries behind horses now rated in the 70s, and was less than three lengths off stablemate Sir Titus at Newcastle in January. That horse is now rated 82, and Equate had a five-pound penalty to contend with – strongly suggesting that his current mark of 68 could prove lenient.

Equate returned from over five months off the track with a respectable fourth at Doncaster, and that form has worked out well since with the winner going in again and the third finishing a close second on his next start. He is entitled to strip fitter with that run under his belt and has the profile of a horse that his trainer usually excels with.

PRAIANO was picked up for 500,000 guineas as a yearling and it’s easy to see why being a half-brother to Group 1 winner Potemkin. Praiano is yet to show anywhere near that level of form in his three starts to date, yet given his connections he looks a surefire improver now handicapping off a mark of just 82.

Praiano split subsequent winners at Doncaster on his penultimate start, and although slightly disappointing that he couldn’t get the job done at Carlisle last time, it is worth noting that the front two that day both pulled twelve lengths clear of the remainder.
