WEDNESDAY BELLEWSTOWN TIPS – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S IRISH RACING MEETING
4:10 Bellewstown – Whiteriver Wood Flooring Claiming Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4½f
COULONCES has shown improved form over hurdles since joining Gavin Cromwell, winning on her stable debut at Fairyhouse in April and bouncing back from a lesser effort over this trip at Punchestown to find only one too good at Clonmel on her last hurdles start.
The Le Havre mare has since run on the flat where she finished fifth and the multiple ex-French flat winner could get back to winning ways here if proving conclusively she gets this longer trip.
She had a couple of subsequent winners behind her in that most recent hurdles outing and dropping now into a claimer she can go close.
5:15 Bellewstown – John H Kierans Memorial Mares Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4½f
DASHING SHIROCCO improved on her hurdles debut at Cork to score over the same course and distance earlier in the month and the Shirocco filly can improve again to double her tally.
Andrew Slattery’s charge was impressive in running out a seven lengths’ victor on that occasion under this rider, travelling well into the race and overcoming a late mistake to score readily.
The third horse home in that race did little harm to the form next time and open to further improvement over this longer trip she can strike again taking on more exposed rivals where she could have the most scope to progress.
5:45 Bellewstown – Donacarney Village Square Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m4½f
LET HER FLOW was put up by this column two days ago when turned out at Ballinrobe and finishing runner-up; the Scorpion mare can go one better dropping in distance and Matthew Smith’s charge ought to go close again if this doesn’t come too soon.
Runner-up on her first start for this yard she struck over this course and distance next time when beating Presenting Cody by two lengths and she possibly failed to last home latest having lead over two out but was unable to hold off the eventual winner.
Racing off the same mark here and with Paul Townend again in the saddle the drop in trip could be a good move and she ought to make her presence felt again assuming the quick turnaround doesn’t catch her out.
6:15 Bellewstown – Bective Stud Mullacurry Cup Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4½f
GOOD WORLD has been on good terms with himself of late, winning two of his last three starts – both at Wexford – and Eoin Griffin’s charge can continue his good spell.
The Morozov gelding had also finished a short-head runner-up in between those wins, the latest of which saw him beat Glen Robin by a half-length over this longer trip where he was strong at the finish.
A 5lbs rise in the weights for that victory may not prove enough of a burden in preventing a repeat and still unexposed over this longer distance there may be better to come from him so no surprise to see him follow up again.
