Fans of Irish horse racing have one meeting to look forward to on Wednesday as flat racing returns following a day off and there is an eight-race card awaiting punters at Gowran Park which includes Listed action on the racecard at the County Kilkenny venue in the evening.

Our team has looked over the Wednesday Irish racing fixture to pick out our Wednesday Gowran Park tips and best bets on the card.

5:00 Gowran Park – Irish EBF Supporting Irish Champions Weekend Fillies & Mares Maiden (3yo+) 1m1½f

Three of these run in the colours of the late Aga Khan and it might be KARATAYKA that proves the pick of the bunch with Mick Halford’s charge taken to strike here.

The Dariyan filly had stepped up in a promising debut at this venue in June to find only one too good next time out at Roscommon over this distance although she took a slight step backwards latest Killarney although possibly finding that longer trip stretching her.

That form does look pretty useful however with the winner and fourth both going on to register wins at the Galway Festival and there could be more to come from her dropping back in distance here so there’d be no shock in her turning in an improved performance now.

5:35 Gowran Park – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo+) 1m1½f

SO I TOLD YOU was a shade unfortunate not to win when badly hampered at Sligo latest, but Joseph O’Brien’s charge can get back on the scoresheet here.

The Gleneagles filly has already won three times this term, one of which came when scoring over this course and distance in the wake of running disappointingly at Royal Ascot, scoring by one length from Alazenya last month.

She held every chance at Sligo latest when contesting the Connacht Oaks when hampered inside the last furlong which likely cost her and a repeat of that effort would give her every chance of making a return to winning ways.

6:35 Gowran Park – Open Week At Gowran Park Handicap (3yo+) 7f

SAN ANDREAS arrives here in good form having won at Fairyhouse in June and making the frame in both subsequent starts; Joseph O’Brien’s charge can get back to winning ways here and ought to go close.

Beaten just a head last time out at Naas behind Mr Wendell where he was just run down late the pair had pulled clear of the third and the Dark Angel gelding should give another good account here despite a 4lbs rise in the handicap for that latest run.

He can continue to remain competitive and he gets on well with this rider whose 7lbs claim continues to be a positive and while this probably isn’t an easy task off top-weight he can go close.

8:05 Goodwood – McEnery Cup Handicap (3yo+) 1m4½f

Lightly-raced PHOENIX COWBOY can get back on the scoresheet here and Ger Lyons’ charge could take some beating.

Placed twice from four starts last term the Gleneagles gelding made a winning return to action over an extra furlong at Ballinrobe in June and he almost followed up latest back there last month when denied only by a neck behind Only Sky, just failing to get up having been held up off the pace.

The handicapper has pushed him up 2lbs for that run but there’s a suspicion he has a bigger effort yet to come and representing a yard in decent form he ought to go well here with further improvement likely.
