Brian Healy gives his Wednesday Happy Valley tips for the day’s scheduled fixture in Hong Kong.

The British Horseracing Authority moved on Tuesday to suspend UK horse racing until the end of April as a minimum, wiping out several high-profile meetings such as the Grand National Meeting, the start of the new flat season and the Newmarket Craven meeting amongst others.

However there is still international horse racing action going ahead despite the COVID19 crisis and a valuable eight-race card goes to post at Happy Valley in Hong Kong with the action being shown live on the At The Races channel.

It is a mid-morning start for the eight-race card which gets underway at 11.15am UK time and the racecard carries a £1million prize purse so looks well worth dabbling in.

Brian Healy takes a look at Wednesday’s international horse racing action and gives his Happy Valley tips for Wednesday’s valuable card in Hong Kong.

11.15 – VICTORIOUS SEEKER (5/1, Bet365)
11.45 – EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE (6/1, Bet365)
12.15 – LITTLE BIRD (9/4, William Hill)
12.45 – MEGATRON (18/1, William Hill)
1.15 – GUNNAR (15/2, Bet365)
1.45 – HEAVENLY THOUGHT (3/1, Bet365)
2.15 – VICTORY IN HAND (5/4, William Hill)
2.50 – AMAZING STAR (13/5, Bet365)

11:15 – Wistaria Handicap (Class 5) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m3f

VICTORIOUS SEEKER has finished in the frame in each of his last three outings which includes over this course and distance two starts ago in January when denied by just over three lengths behind Sky Gem.

Paul O’Sullivan’s Sebring gelding remains capable of making his presence felt in this contest despite a wide draw and raised 1lb in the ratings although the form of the yard – 0-19 at the time of writing – is a slight concern.

Nevertheless, he could get involved if the draw doesn’t inconvenience him and he looks capable of another bold show.

11:45 – Osmanthus Handicap (Div I) (Class 4) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 6f

It has been a while since EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE last won, but the Darci Bramma gelding has been running well in defeat and should continue to give a good account.

He has finished fourth in each of his last two starts, not beaten far on either occasion and most recently finished just two lengths’ runner-up to Ares.

He has the number one berth to work from here and he looks capable of mounting a bold bid having been dropped 1lb.

12:15 – Cassia Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+)

LITTLE BIRD has been eased 2lbs in the weights and might be capable of bouncing back to form here.

He’s been out of sorts in recent outings, but he returns to a very winnable mark and his last success came over this distance from this rating so he looks worth chancing to leave previous form behind reunited with Zac Purton who has steered the Starcraft gelding to two of his three career wins.

With a decent stall to work from and in a race where there’s likely to be a decent pace to the contest he could be worth siding with to snap his losing run.

12:45 – Verbena Handicap (Class 4) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m½f

MEGATRON won over this trip at Sha Tin back in December and the Hard Spun gelding has been running well in defeat since, making the frame in each of his last three starts which includes only being beaten a half-length behind Foodie Prince at the same venue in February.

Last seen finishing third to the same rival later last month he was a turf winner here last autumn and a return to this surface could see him better recent outings where he can resume winning ways despite racing from this higher mark.

1:15 – Osmanthus Handicap (Div II) (Class 4) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 6f

GUNNAR won over course and distance back in November last year and the Hinchinbrook gelding looks sure to make his presence felt again here.

Caspar Fownes’ charge was last seen finishing third behind the reopposing Ares over course and distance last month, beaten just over one length although he was giving weight to both the winner and runner-up.

He meets both on better terms and Blake Shinn takes over from a claimer so there looks a decent chance that he can reverse the form of his last run.

1:45 – Magnolia Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m½f

HEAVENLY THOUGHT gained some reward for a couple of runner-up efforts when getting off the mark over course and distance last month and the So You Think gelding can follow up.

Frankie Lor’s So You Think gelding has been raised 5lbs for that win but now that he’s made a winning breakthrough he could be capable of raising his game again.

He doesn’t have the best of draws to work from, but with Joao Moreira in the saddle he can give a good account and no surprise to see him in the mix.

2:15 – Dianthus Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 6f

VICTORY IN HAND was a denied a hat-trick when beaten over this course and distance last month. But the O’reilly gelding had won both of his previous two starts over course and distance and could bounce back.

He might have gone off too hard in that latest run, folding late on and eventually crossing the line in sixth place; but he could be worth another chance to defy this 63 rating given that he could still have some scope to improve as a lightly-raced sort with only a handful of starts to his name.

2:50 – Begonia Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+) (Course C+3) (Turf) (3yo+) 6f

AMAZING STAR saw his winning run halted when finishing seventh behind Waldorf over this course and distance last month; but he might have gone off too hard on that occasion and he could be worth chancing to bounce back.

He had bolted prior to the start in that contest so perhaps wasn’t at his best; but he had racked up a hat-trick of wins previously and is worth forgiving his latest run and he could do better here.
