WEDNESDAY RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR PLUMPTON, LEICESTER & KEMPTON
1:00 Plumpton – Tie The Knot Wedding Catering Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m4½f
Irish point-to-point winner TALLOW FOR COAL offered plenty to work on when finding only one too good on his hurdles debut back in November at Uttoxeter, beaten just over one length behind Here Comes Mccoy.
That experience won’t have been lost on the Arctic Cosmos gelding who was possibly undone by a mistake at the last obstacle and he could improve on the back of that performance with these conditions no issue.
A first-time tongue-tie could help him find further progress and Jamie Snowden’s charge can go close here.
1:40 Leicester – Pertemps Network Selling Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+) 2m4½f
GOODBYE DANCER was useful in his younger days where he was a 133-rated winner at his peak when trained by Nigel Twiston Davies; but after a winning start for Fergal O’Brien the Dragon Dancer gelding has been largely disappointing albeit at a higher level than this.
As a result of some indifferent efforts his mark has tumbled and he drops into a Class 4 contest having last been seen contesting in a Class Three race at Haydock in December; he’d been contesting Class 2 races prior to that so this represents a big step down in class and he could captialise from the being in the easier grade with a return to winning ways.
He finds himself on a career-low mark dropping back in trip and the application of cheekpieces for the first time could see him going close back at the scene of a previous course and distance win.
2:00 Plumpton – Sky Sports Racing Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (Div II) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m
Despite showing little in a Market Rasen bumper on his debut back in February last year STAR ACADEMY has looked more assured over obstacles and Venetia Williams’ charge can open his account here.
The Stowaway gelding built on a fair hurdles introduction at Chepstow in November to find only a couple too good over this trip at Uttoxeter the following month where he was beaten five lengths and just behind the runner-up who reopposes on slightly worse terms.
As a result there could be a reversal of fortunes here with the selection taken to overturn that form assuming he progresses again and he can get off the mark at the third attempt.
2:30 Plumpton – Strong Flavours Catering Conditional Jockeys’ Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Veterans’ Series Qual’) Cl3 (10yo+ 0-125) 3m1½f
SNUFF BOX had shown largely patchy form over fences prior to scoring when last seen at Bangor in December and with that victory under his belt the Witness Box gelding might be able to follow up here.
Venetia Williams’ charge also won a hurdles contest back in April 2018 and he’s returned from a break in the wake of a mixed spell to find only one too good after ten months off at Linfield in November and then registering that sucess where he beat Fortescue by a neck.
A subsequent 4lbs rise for that success is largely negated by his rider’s claim and he can go close if backing up that latest performance.
4:45 Kempton – Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-60) 1m
NORTONTHORPE BOY won back-to-back races around the turn of the year at Wolverhampton and here and the Swiss Spirit gelding was beaten less than one length in his hat-trick bid at Southwell three days ago where he was denied by less than one length behind Woke Media.
His earlier win over seven furlongs at this venue saw him get the better of the reopposing Banoffee and Phil McEntee’s charge can confirm that form on these terms where the 5lbs claim of Grace McEntee leaves him well treated despite a penalty.
He does have to prove he’s as good at one mile but he does stay this far and assuming this doesn’t come too soon then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him going close again.
5:15 Kempton – Join Racing TV Now Handicap (Div I) Cl6 (4yo+ 0-55) 1m
HUNTERS STEP won twice for previous handler Nigel Tinker as well as make the frame a few times and the Mukhadram gelding could be worth chancing to get back on the scoresheet following a near-miss runner-up effort at Lingfield nine days ago.
Gay Kelleway’s charge was beaten only a nose by Violet’s Lads on that occasion where he just failed to overhaul the winner having met with some trouble.
That form has since been boosted with the fifth horse home winning next time out and racing from the same mark here he might be able to resume winning ways on his second outing for his shrewd trainer.
