Meanwhile there is also all-weather action on the flat with an afternoon racecard on the Lingfield polytrack, while Kempton race under the floodlights on their polytrack surface.
22 races in all will unfold throughout the day and we’ve picked out our Wednesday racing tips and best bets for the day.
WEDNESDAY RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT WARWICK, LINGFIELD & KEMPTON
2:35 Warwick – Watch On Racing TV Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-115) 3m1½f
VOLCANO has taken well to chasing, twice finishing in the frame on his first two attempts over fences before registering a brace of victories at Ludlow and here, latterly beating Kilpin by three lengths.
Sheila Lewis’ charge was denied a hat-trick at Hereford latest when last seen out last month, beaten around twelve lengths behind Flagrant Delitiep although the slow pace and drop back in trip might not have seen him in the best light and the Martaline gelding could do better back over this much stiffer test.
This is likely to be run at a fair pace with several front-runners in opposition and having been eased 3lbs he could post a big effort given he’s still relatively unexposed as a staying chaser. He could be worth chancing then over this more extreme distance to bounce back to winning form.
3:05 Warwick – Lady Protectress Mares’ Chase (Listed Race) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m4f
A really good renewal of this Listed prize can go to ZAMBELLA who is 3-3 over fences – all at Listed level – and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge can extend her perfect record.
A multiple winner in France over hurdles for Joel Boisnard the Zambezi Sun mare was highly tried over hurdles following her switch to this yard, contesting with credit in Listed and Grade Two company and she finished fourth in the Kingwell Hurdle last February when it was held at Kempton.
Having possibly needed her return in the Prelude Hurdle she has struck a trio of chase wins at Bangor, here and Leicester respectively with her course win in December coming at this trip when beating Midnightreferendum and she latterly beat Cut The Mustard quire readily despite making a few errors on the way round.
She remains capable of better and still relatively unexposed over fences could well prove the one to beat with further improvement anticipated.
3:25 Lingfield – Bombardier “March To Your Own Drum” Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-75) 7f
ICONIC KNIGHT can get back to winning ways having gone close over course and distance last month and the Sir Prancealot gelding can give another good account.
Ed Walker’s charge was a turf winner at Chepstow back in August last year and he rounded off 2020 with success at Wolverhampton where he beat The Cruising Lord by a nose. His last run saw him beaten just a half-length where he finished well from off the pace and racing here off the same mark he could get back on the scoresheet.
He possibly wasn’t ideally suited by the slow pace last time out but he should get more of a gallop to aim at this time around and that could see him make a return to the winners’ enclosure.
3:55 Lingfield – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-60) 6f
SPARK FURY produced her best effort to date when finding only one too good at Chelmsford last month and the Kodiac filly might be capable of going one better this time around if building on that run.
Archie Watson’s charge was beaten only a half-length on that occasion behind Mid Day Rush over this trip, run down late having made most of the running and she can compete here from the same mark although she’s due to go up 3lbs in future so might be able to exploit this mark before her new rating takes effect.
She has to back up that latest effort but this doesn’t look the strongest of races and she can go close again if running to a similar level as last time.
5:25 Kempton – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap (London Mile Series Qualifier) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-105) 1m
STARSHIBA has made the frame in all his starts aside from when making his debut at this venue last June and the Acclamation gelding can follow up his breakthrough success when scoring over seven furlongs back at this track last month.
David Elsworth’s charge had found only one too good on each of his two previous starts here and at Lingfield either side of a break and he scored a shade readily in his latest outing where he beat Equitation by just over one length.
He gave the impression that this longer trip might suit and turned out under a 5lbs penalty he could follow up that breakthrough success if continuing in form faced with another likely strongly-run race.
6:30 Kempton – Unibet Casino Deposit £10 Get £40 Bonus Handicap (London Middle Distance Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-80) 1m3f
CHARLIE ARTHUR rarely runs a bad race on the all-weather although he’s done the bulk of his winning at Southwell; but the Slade Power gelding can get back to winning ways here.
Richard Hughes’ charge has returned from a couple of months off to finish third and runner-up at Chelmsford the last twice, latterly beaten only a neck behind Bayston Hill where he was run down late having led into the last furlong.
This extra furlong will be of no issue and he’s only 1lb higher in the weights for this latest outing; his consistency is hard to knock and he ought to remain competitive so no surprise if he makes his presence felt once more.
