Wednesday’s 5,527/1 Lucky 15 – Our Big Odds Picks For 31st August

Six meetings go to post across the UK & Ireland, including a trio of all-weather meetings. Our Lucky 15 for Wednesday, 30th August includes a selection at each of those AW meetings, plus our pick for the feature race at Hamilton.

Our expert tipster has produced their best bets across the cards, which make up our advised Wednesday Lucky 15.

*Odds correct at time of posting – 4pm Tuesday 30th August*

Ustath (1.20 Southwell) – 8/1

Roger Fell’s USTATH looks too big a price in this. He failed to handle the drop back to 5f but will feel much more at home over this 6f trip and he looks a superb price, and is well worth backing each-way.

Before those two 5f runs, the 6YO had three races on the all-weather (two at Southwell), winning one and placing in the other two. Having won off a mark of 60 in the past, winning off a mark of 59 is certainly doable. Add to that, Young jockey William Pyle takes the ride and having already ridden a winner at Southwell earlier in the week, he takes a valuable 3lb off in a further boost to our selections chances.

He also has a solid record at Southwell, with his record reading 111342374732961226 (4-18), improving to 134142912 (3-9) over 6f. Everything points towards a big run for our selection and at the odds we couldn’t leave him unbacked!

Love Poems (4.00 Lingfield) – 6/1

This looks a wide open race but LOVE POEMS looks to have an excellent chance at tempting odds. Since stepping up in trip to 1m 6f+ she’s won once and finished runner-up in two of the other races, and this looks a golden opportunity to get back in the winners enclosure.

She’s been off the course for 138 days but has run well following a break in the past and the drop back to class 5 company can see her to best effect. Her last run was in a class 4 and although she only finished fourth, she still beat the favourite Merlin’s Beard, who won next time out.

She’s placed in two of her three races at Lingfield and it would be disappointing if she didn’t at least place in this. I Doubt That was an impressive winner at Kempton earlier in the month and will be the biggest danger, but at the odds we would rather side with Love Poems.

Cicely (4.10 Wolverhampton) – 7/1

Talk about a C&D specialist! CICELY has had three races over C&D in her career so far, and won all three! It would appear the bookies have judged her on her most recent runs, which have all been on turf and she’s pretty much a different animal on the tapeta at Wolverhampton.

She clearly has a liking for Wolverhampton, and her last run over C&D was hugely impressive, when beating recent Beverley winner Captain Kane. After attempting a switch to turf which didn’t pay off, she had a two month break and should be fully primed for a big run back on tapeta.

Oli Stammers has been on board for all three wins in her career and is back on board again here. We can’t see her finish outside of the places and think she has a huge chance of making it 4/4.

Jm Jungle (6.25 Hamilton) – 5/1

The feature race at Hamilton has a good chance of going to a horse with Jungle in their name – with Jm Jungle, Jungle Fever and Jungle Time making up 50% of the field! We’re keen on one in particular – John Quinn’s JM JUNGLE. She disappointed at York earlier in the month but got no run whatsoever and this is a much more realistic race for her.

Her two runs at the Scottish venue have resulted in a win and close third, where Shandy Star just finished ahead of her when 2lb lighter. Jm Jungle is now 2lb lighter than Shandy Star in this, which should be enough to reverse those placings.

Coco Jack looks to be the main danger to the selection, having finished a close fourth in a Goodwood Handicap last month, but at the odds we’re willing to take a chance on Jm Jungle gaining a long overdue win.
